This lens will be a great addition to someones outfit then based on your experience with uncoated jena sonnar will. ?I was given a contax 2 camera by my Dad at the same time as this lens. ?It seems it was manufactured in the same year as this lens 1939. ?I have decided to sell this lens to pay for the repair of the jammed shutter on the contax.?

Greetings to All!

I have a very similar 1.5 Jena Sonnar with a earlier serial number 2188102. I came upon it a few years ago on Ebay. Mine is definitely not "T" coated but it renders very beautifully wide open(i.e. dreamy) but quickly becomes very sharp but with a character that is quite unique at f2 and beyond. Wouldn't be without it. It has stops to F11. Am I to understand this lens was manufactured in 1913 based on the serial # chart? If so, truly remarkable lens.

Best regards,Wil

Thiele's book gives 2188102 as part of a batch of 3000 lenses completed 13 December 1937.? I love the rendering of the old uncoated sonnars on my Sony A7

Re: Zeiss jena sonnar nr2552394 contax fit.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The date comes from a publication called Frabikationsbuch PhotooptikII, Carl Zeiss Jena by Hartmut Thiele.? Mr. Thiele complied the data in the book from Zeiss factory records.? The lens in question appears to be in standard Contax mount.? The rear portion of the lens mount is probably black so as to minimize reflective surfaces that could adversely affect lens performance- this is standard feature on CZJ lenses of the period.

Contaflex TLR: how to remove the Sucher/Finder lens?

The seller in the (old) auction shown below displays a Contaflex TLR from which the Sucher lens seems to have been easily removed.

(see the last image)

How is this achieved?

Contaflex TLR: remove the finder (sucher) lens

The seller of the Contaflex TLR in the auction below seems to have removed the Sucher lens without problems (see last image).

How is this done?

Re: Zeiss jena sonnar nr2552394 contax fit.

According to the Carl Zeiss Jena serial number, the lens was made in 1939. ?Jena lenses usually were not coated until after WW2, but some were coated just before and during WW2. ?I have a Super Ikonta 533-16 BX with lens number 2623007 which would indicate it also was made in 1939, but the camera was assembled postwar as it has an asterisk after the body number although the lens IS coated. ?The lens you are inquiring about might have been factory coated or sent to the factory to be coated postwar. ?

ABOUT Yahoogroups

Yahoogroups is a free mailing list service. You can set your own email distribution list by going to or see information about the ZICG mailing list at

If you are a member of Yahoo AND you are a member of ZICG, you can view the archive of emails online as well as change your personal settings (such as digest mode etc). You may also view the subscription list.

ZICG used to be listed with Coollist. Poor reliability and even poorer customer service saw ZICG move in May 2000 to eGroups. William Lurie organised with nine other members to keep ZICG ad-free and paid eGroups a fee to drop all advertisements from emails. ZICG became ad-free from November 5, 2000. EGroups became a possession of Yahoo in December, 2000. Hence ZICG became a Yahoo group.

POSTING TO ZICG

The ZICG list was set up for people who want to discuss anything Zeiss. ZICG is a collection of Zeiss authorities and enthusiasts brought together through the medium of email to share knowledge as friends. Anybody can be a member and nobody has ever been banned.

You cannot send attachments. If you want to share a file, put it on a website and post the URL to the list. Remember that .vcf files (vcards) are classified as attachments. As a member, you can upload photos and files to the ZICG archives with Yahoo and then send notification to the list.

Please do not post HTML or specially formatted messages to the list. If you can, turn off these options on your email program. Some ZICG members cannot read your message if you send it in those formats.

Sale or Wanted adverts are acceptable on ZICG. All adverts must be about Zeiss equipment. You can post them at any time as a dealer or collector. Please do not abuse this policy, regulations will be set if members become dissatisfied with excessive sale/wanted adverts from the same individuals. It is acceptable to send an auction URL as long as it maintains a relevance to discussion on ZICG.

The official ZICG web site is:

It was created by Thomas Myro. It is well out of date but has some archives from 1997 on it. Nobody has used the classified section for some time now. It is a private web page, not a collectively produced one.

Passwords are:
CONTAPROX for the archives.
PROXAR for the classifieds.

Both in uppercase letters.

WARNING: Thomas's web page has out of date subscription details, it still refers to the Coollist mailing list. That mailing list no longer exists. Please only ever refer to the Yahoo! web page for subscription information.

Sometime in the future it would be great to develop a website made up of contributions from all members of ZICG. This may be something that could be developed through Yahoo's service or via a member with web space to donate.
