Hi ZICG,
Looks the migration has been completed to groups.io. I have set the group to be publicly findable and I will shortly set the Yahoo group to disable messages. People should be able to post here now. But I'll post a test message shortly.
I am deeply grateful to those who donated to defray costs. Your generosity made a huge dent in the bill and I will recognize those people later in a digest message somehow. Unsurprisingly, I didn't see 10% of people donate $2, but the people who gave between $5 to $20 (in varying currencies) offset that.
The migration itself looks okay, but here is a couple of points that I have noticed:
(1) Our membership fell from 1072 members to 850.
I expected that because a number of member email addresses were hard bouncing and probably the email accounts don't exist anymore. The migration didn't take them, which I think is a reasonable thing. Additionally, a handful of people immediately unsubscribed after the migration.
(2) Some photos didn't appear to make it over, but I will fix that manually later.
(3) Some email messages appear to be timestamped incorrectly, so the archives may not show a message on the real date it was sent.
For example, the first message in the archives is dated as 1998, but this is not possible because there were no archives before May 2000. This is probably caused by someone posting to ZICG using a computer with the time set incorrectly. I do not believe I can fix that manually.
I'm looking forward to smooth sailing for another 20 years! Something tells me that's hopeless optimism.
Regards,
Michael Moffatt
