Dit herinner my aan die vraag of “Elliott [die verhuisingsfirma] is amazing” of “Elliott are amazing” korrek is. Dit was jare gelede die firma se radioslagspreuk, en daar was blykbaar kritiek daarop. Waarna die firma iets prakseer het soos “Whether you think Elliott is amazing or are amazing….”

Mens kan sulke keuses tussen die duiwel en die diep blou see pypkan deur herformulering:

Weglating van “brought together” is geen verlies nie; “the group meets” volg vanselfsprekend, en die komma voor “and” kan ook maar waai. Die Amerikaners is dol daaroor (hulle noem dit die Harvard-komma), maar die Britte (wat dit die Oxford-komma noem) is nie:
