We¡¯ve been doing extended hours since Thanksgiving but as far as Christmas is concerned, that began on December 18 at noon Pacific time.

We are continuing that schedule and on Christmas Day, we plan on beginning at 9 AM Pacific which is at noon Eastern.

All of this is on the Blue network with the Red joining us during the evening.

We¡¯ve also been airing the shows on both the SPERDVAC and REPS radio channels.

Extended hours will continue through New Years day and perhaps a little beyond

This is one of the oldest studio in the world going back in 1931.? ??Electro-Box base in LA record ?many of NBC radio shows and mutual.? In the 1950s and 1960s Capitol Records use the Electro-Box studio for some of it,s recordings too.? THE ENTIRE 19-HOUR WJRV BROADCAST DAY from war-time September 21, 1939, which was recorded and the discs turned over the National Archives. ?

MOST OF THE WEAF BROADCAST DAY on NBC of August 10, 1945, the day the A-bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.

THE LAST TWO DAYS OF THE CBS SOAPS, Walden is sharing the last two days, November 24 and 25, 1960, when the plugged was suddenly pulled, ending the entire soap-opera genre.

GEORGE BURNS AND GRACY ALLEN SHOW, later known as Burns and Allen, is a collection of half-hour shows featuring straight man George to zany Gracie¡¯s antics.

ORSON WELLES COLLECTION: Welles did a staggering number of radio performances, including The Shadow, Mercury Theatre on the Air, his famous War of the Worlds broadcast and hundreds of others. He even hosted The Jack Benny Program when Benny was down with pneumonia and his sense of timing and humor were extraordinary, making his time on the show among his best.

THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR written by Peg Lynch features a peculiar family with peculiar family situations.
?
DOCTOR KILDARE highlighted the medical challenges faced by the young doctor played by Lew Ayers, and his mentor, Dr. Gillespie played by Lionel Barrymore. Even though the situations are foreign in today¡¯s medical practices, this show was well written and very well performed, keeping it among the favorites for many listeners.
?
DR. CHRISTIAN stars a small-town doctor who faces daily challenges and medical dilemmas. Actor Jean Hersholt did such a great job as a doctor that he reportedly received letters from listeners asking for medical advice.
?
DUFFY¡¯S TAVERN, a sit-com with a cast of richly diverse characters with equally rich humor, starred Ed Gardner as the beleaguered bartender/manager.
?
FATHER KNOWS BEST starred Robert Young, the easy-going dad who didn¡¯t always know best and who later moved to television with the show.
?
FIBBER MCGEE AND MOLLY ¡ª another sit-com I love ¡ª features Don Quinn¡¯s superb writing (and later with Phil Leslie) and equally superb acting by Jim and Marian Jordan. The show ran from 1935 to 1959 and gave listeners a break from the Great Depression, World War II¡¯s horrors and the trying years after the war.

PHIL HARRIS AND ALICE FAYE SHOW, also a sit-com, added Walter Tetley, Elliott Lewis and Gale Gordon to the mix. The story lines were among radio¡¯s funniest ¡ª witness the time Phil thought he would save grocery money by buying his own steer.
?
The FRED ALLEN SHOW included Allen¡¯s Alley¡¯s comedy characters, skits, guests, and the now famous Fred Allen-Jack Benny feud that started with a left-handed swipe at Benny¡¯s violin playing. The pair ran with the line and tossed barbs at each other for years. At the apex of the mock feud between the fast friends, only FDR¡¯s fireside chats had more listeners.

GANG BUSTERS was one of radio¡¯s earliest crime shows and, at the time, the only show that featured actual criminal cases.
?
THE GREAT GILDERSLEEVE featured both Hal Peary and Willard Waterman in the role of the often bombastic uncle who was raising his sister¡¯s two orphaned children, Leroy and Marjorie.
?
THE GREEN HORNET featured newspaper publisher Brett Reid who, disguised as the Green Hornet, fought crime and corruption from 1938 to 1952, assisted by his faithful valet, Kato, who drove the Hornet¡¯s Black Beauty.

GUNSMOKE, with William Conrad as Marshall Matt Dillon, took westerns to a new level of sophistication with stories that entertained both kids and adults.

HALLS OF IVY (Walden¡¯s favorite show) starred real-life husband and wife Ronald and Bonita Colman as William and Victoria Hall, the president of Ivy College and his British-born wife. Together, they tackled challenges associated with college life laced with humor.

HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL, starring John Dehner, was another sophisticated western with sometimes wrenching scripts of life in the west during the latter 1800s.

INFORMATION PLEASE put four brilliant panelists, one of whom was always a well-known figure as a guest panelist, under the gun to answer challenging questions that had been submitted by listeners.

THE JACK BENNY PROGRAM, starring one of America¡¯s most beloved comedians, entertained America for 23 years on radio.

THE LIFE OF RILEY, starring William Bendix as the hapless Chester A. Riley, who brought his delightful Brooklyn personality to California and typically wound up entangled in laughable dilemmas he called ¡°revoltin¡¯ developments.¡±

THE LONE RANGER, a Fran Stryker creation, rode Silver alongside his faithful companion Tonto on Scout. Together, the Robin Hood-type characters thwarted crime, captured criminals and rescued families from impending disasters. The show ran from January 1933 to September 1954, delivering more than 3,000 episodes for kids and adults alike.

LUM AND ABNER, a down-home, country-folk comedy (1931 to 1954) featured the frequently know-it-all Lum Edwards (pronounced Edders) and the perpetually sweet and quietly wise Abner Peabody as the proprietors of The Jot ¡®em Down Store in Pine Ridge, Arkansas.

LUX RADIO THEATER became one of the most important and respected dramatic shows in radio, and had the highest budget, too.
?
MR. KEEN, TRACER OF LOST PERSONS was one of radio¡¯s longest-running shows. It featured low-key Mr. Keen and his Irish assistant Michael Clancy who quickly expanded their services to include crime stopping.
?
NBC D-DAY RECORDING preserves the first 36 hours of the D-Day invasion in Europe, with updates as they came in, including the famous George Hicks transmission from a beachhead ship.

CBS D-DAY RECORDING

THE ADVENTURES OF NERO WOLFE, featuring the great detective created by Rex Stout. The orchid aficionado and gourmet solved the most confounding and intricate mysteries and appeared two different times in radio¡¯s lineup, the second time as The New Adventures of Nero Wolfe.

NICK CARTER, MASTER DETECTIVE, starring Lon Clark as a private dick, tested listeners¡¯ own detective skills of sorting clues that led logically to the answer.
?
NIGHT BEAT, starring Frank Lovejoy as a night-shift newspaper reporter Randy Stone, was a high-quality drama series that aired for only two years, 1950 to 1952. The intro told listeners that Stone "searches through the city for the strange stories waiting for him in the darkness." And they were.
?
OUR MISS BROOKS, starred Eve Arden as teacher Connie Brooks, with Gale Gordon as school Principal Osgood Conklin. The show delivered high-end humor involving a covey of high school students who were never at a loss for turning life on end.
?
PEARL HARBOR: NBC Red and Blue coverage of 12-7-41 and 12-8-41. Poor sound quality but the best available of the historic broadcasts.
?
THE ADVENTURES OF PHILIP MARLOWE, starring Gerald Mohr as the edgy detective, brought both personality and great gumshoe crime-solving work to radio.
?
THE RED SKELTON SHOW became one of the most memorable OTR comedy programs, with skits, Red¡¯s characterizations and especially Junior, the endearing brat of the century.
?
RICHARD DIAMOND, PRIVATE DETECTIVE, starring Dick Powell, had a more casual approach to crime-solving than other radio gumshoes, and every show had a drizzle of sarcasm. They all ended with Richard Diamond in his rich girlfriend¡¯s home where he crooned to her delight.
?
ROCKY FORTUNE, a Frank Sinatra jewel, was a dramatic departure of both his typical entertainment endeavors and far from what listeners learned to expect from radio¡¯s adventurous detectives. Rocky took on an array of cases, not all of them crimes, and pursued answers with humor-riddled dialogue and an endearing attitude. The down side is that this terrific show ran for only one season. (On my list of favorites.)

THE SAINT starring Vincent Price, who added an element of sophistication as he worked to right wrongs, finds answers and criminals where police work had failed, and never misses an opportunity to deliver a witty comeback in even the tensest situations. As a sort-of detective show, I give it a 10.
?
THE SHADOW, with an introduction that included the words, ¡°The Shadow knows,¡± tracks down criminals and interrupts crimes, thanks to his ability to ¡°cloud men¡¯s mind¡± so they could not see him.
?
THE SIX SHOOTER, starring James (Jimmy) Stewart as Britt Ponset, was one of radio¡¯s most sophisticated westerns and never lost the human touch. Ponset was a cowboy drifter who also provided some narration as stories unfolded. His quiet approach and western wisdom to challenges, including gunslingers, put this show in a class apart from mainstream westerns.
?
THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN ran for 10 years and aired one, two and five times a week at different times over the years. The man of steel, who was originally created for comics, was a crime fighter and ¡ª during World War II ¡ª went up against Nazis and Japanese enemies. His stand for truth and justice also included doing battle with the Ku Klux Klan.

SUSPENSE was one of radio¡¯s scariest shows, introduced on the air as ¡°radio¡¯s outstanding theater of thrills.¡± It had an impressive run from 1940 to 1962, and scared the wits out of listeners.
?
VIC AND SADE, nicknames of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gook who lived in a small Midwestern town. They and their adopted son, Rush, had the uncanny ability to turn the most mundane of our everyday lives into laughable situations. Defined as Vignettes by radio historian John Dunning, the show arrived in thousands of 12-minute ¡°episodes.¡±
?
THE WHISTLER delivered creepy stories and criminal justice tales that ended in twists of fate for 13 years. An outstanding series because of outstanding writing and acting.
?
YOU BET YOUR LIFE quiz show, with Groucho Marx quipping and wise-cracking through every show, ran from 1947 to 1956. All questions to a pair of contestants were fair. Correct answers earned money, and a guest who said the secret word collected $100 from a duck that dropped down.
?
YOURS TRULY, JOHNNY DOLLAR, presented the adventures of a freelance insurance investigator who ferreted out fraud and the truth in questionable claims. While eight actors played Johnny Dollar during its 13-year run, Bob Bailey is generally considered the most popular among listeners. Bailey¡¯s work, which brought the series to its conclusion, is included with all the others in this collection up for bid.

SCREEN DIRECTORS PLAYHOUSE was one of radio¡¯s most respected dramatic anthologies that offered radio adaptations of movies, with performances by dozens of entertainment¡¯s greatest actors and actresses.

THE THIRD MAN (subtitled The Adventures of Harry Lime) stars Orson Welles as a likable con artist whose marks were greedier than Harry. Outstanding scripts and equally outstanding acting make this series a winner.

It is with great regret that I report the death of my dear friend John Matthews. I have been one of his closest since 1989. John was in hospice after months and months of chronic pain. He decided to stop his medications and had Beaumont hospice take care of him for the remaining time, which was only 4 days. Please think of the good things about John, though I know he had many problems and faults. John had his ideas and goals in life, so sad that he affected so many who knew him, and had little effect on the many who didn't.

One third of the journey is done... ¨C Hello everyone, Two weeks since the launch, we are 33% of the way to our funding goal. We have another four weeks to go with over 100 people who have pledged so far. The amazing news is most people are pledging an amount that will provide them all 78 Bold Venture episodes via digital download or on audio CDs. This includes the 18 lost Bold Venture episodes that have not been heard in 70+ years. And I promise you the sound quality of all 78 episodes will be pristine! We need an average of 4 new pledges per day. Although we¡¯ve averaged more than this per day so far, I think this is going to be difficult. If we are going to hit our funding goal and transfer these 78 Bold Venture episodes and save this series for generations to come, we will need more support. Can you please help spread the word? If you have not yet pledged, please consider doing so sooner rather than later. If you have pledged an amount that will not get you all 78 episodes, would you consider increasing your pledge so you do receive the complete run of Bold Venture? In order for this preservation effort to succeed, we will need the support of the old-time radio enthusiasts and hobbyists. To date, surprisingly, few of these people have made pledges, which is rather disappointing. These are the people who care about these radio shows the most but only a handful of the hobbyists found in the various Facebook groups have pledged so far. According to the analysis of the various links used for this Kickstarter campaign, the majority of the pledgers to date have been from listeners to my radio show, Hollywood 360. I thought that the OTR community would be rallying around a preservation effort like this since it is really a once in a lifetime opportunity to transfer the Ziv library of not only Bold Venture but Boston Blackie, I Was a Communist for the FBI, Mr. District Attorney, Philo Vance, Favorite Story, The Easy Aces and so many more from Ziv¡¯s personal un-played discs which have been in temperature-controlled storage and well-cared-for these many decades. How often is something as exciting as this going to come along in our hobby? We have access to Ziv¡¯s private collection of un-played discs to all of his radio shows! These discs have been sitting for 70+ years because no single person has had the money to professionally transfer them all (some 10,000+ discs in the Ziv library). That¡¯s why I took this on because I figured the OTR community would band together and (along with my radio audience) help me rescue these Ziv shows. Although we¡¯re off to a good start, we need at least 200 more pledges. If you¡¯ve been sitting on the fence waiting to see if this Kickstarter is going to happen, please make your pledge. Your pledge won¡¯t be processed unless we hit our goal so please act now. We can't get closer to the goal and see where the support REALLY stands, without having everyone that is truly interested, making a pledge. Tell your friends and help save Bold Venture and let¡¯s move on to the complete run of Boston Blackie and the other Ziv shows. Time will tell but if we don¡¯t make our funding goal, Bold Venture will unfortunately not be released, nor will the other Ziv shows and that would be a real shame and a lost opportunity for this great hobby. ?? How many of you know the name Frederic W. Ziv? Uh-huh. And how many of you know the names Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall? I thought so.
?? How many of you have heard of the Bold Venture radio program which starred Bogart and Bacall? Oh.
Yes, that's right. They did, and it was an action / adventure series. They did 78 programs in total of the Bold Venture show. 18 of the programs have not been heard in the 70 years plus, since they were last broadcast over the airwaves.
?? Bold Venture was a crown jewel in the collection of 41 different radio serials produced and owned by Frederic W. Ziv, king of all radio and television syndicators.
?? Ziv's personal, private collection of over 10,000 transcription discs was recently licensed to Carl Amari. Amari, a long-time collector and rights licensee of old time radio programs, wants to preserve them for posterity as digital audio files and make them available for all to enjoy. There is a reason this collection has never been licensed before, it is an expensive proposition!
