Juju needed for my DIL. They have just moved from NY City to Florence, Italy for son’s work. On the 8th day there DIL (Amanda) fell over and broke her left tibia and right ankle! Luckily they have an apartment until the end of August while they find long term accommodation. Also Adam is on holiday until the end of the month. Son & granddaughter (13 next month) are learning to do bed pans & bed baths! So, juju please? Beryl

Absolutely! Moving can be stressful even under the best of conditions, and I hope that DIL heals well and quickly.

Oh Beryl!? What astonishingly bad luck. All juju firing directly at Italy - for healing, finding a new place, and surviving the heat and strangeness (and for anything else required). Jenny ?

All the best to your Dil and son and family. Here's to fast healing! What an unfortunate thing to happen right after they got there.

Peter Adam’s employer -UNICEF - pays for their health insurance. I think also that Australians have reciprocal health coverage in Italy. Beryl

Health insurance is good! DH, who is working for a WHO spin-off in Geneva still, has good insurance. So when he needed to call an emergency ambulance a month ago, he never even thought about cost (no charge here in the UK). We were surprised to get a bill for 995 Swiss francs (the hospital is only half a mile from our Geneva apartment), but duly forwarded it to the insurers. Apparently they pay half? of one call out per insurance year, so we did have a sizeable bill to pay still. But needs must – and if he needs one again he will just have to call it whatever the cost. ? I don’t know how this works in the US or Australia, maybe nobody else here is even slightly surprised by this circumstance……. ? Beryl, I hope things are going reasonably well in Florence. Maybe one day the family group will all look back and laugh over the memories they make now. ? Jenny

I hope your DH is ok?
The cost of an ambulance in Australia varies from state to state but where Peter & I live it costs various amounts depending on circumstances. We have the cost included in our medical insurance.

Thanks Beryl, I hope he will be. It seems it was a perforated ulcer. Very messy and taking a long time to recover from (15 days in hospital didn’t help although it was a really nice hospital and ward). ? Poor DH is having a terrible year, back in February a chance blood test done in Switzerland (and not routinely done here in the Uk), showed a possibility of prostate cancer, and three months of tests showed he has an aggressive form. Hoping to start a? few weeks of radiotherapy soon….and fingers crossed for a good outcome. It is disconcerting to think that being off work with exhaustion may have unexpectedly saved his life, because they do hope they have caught the cancer in time! ? Meanwhile we are still struggling with administering and settling the three estates of the three deceased parents, caring for MIL’s affairs, plus in my case zipping between here and Geneva, and here and Glasgow for mother in law. I yearn for a quiet, settled life. Thank goodness for knitting and dog walks. ? Wishing everyone a good summer, not too hot or too wild…..I love seeing people’s pictures on Facebook. Jenny ?
