Re: The great migration has begun

I've never done a power move before. I think I never want to do one again.

This is mostly trying to take advantage of the insane market to get out of a house that has some layout issues.

Provided there's nothing in my credit report I don't know about (and that would be bad!), I do have confirmation that the place I want to rent is mine. Huge, huge relief.

I think (please think good thoughts at the universe) that I have found a place for the next 18 or so months. It's in my school district (essential), in "town" (which will be new for Arielle and the idea of which she loves even though I think she's either going to have to walk to school or I'll wind up driving her), but it's also tiny. 945 square feet of living space with 1880s width stairs kind of tiny. Came to the conclusion last night that while my dresser would fit in the room, I don't think we can get it up the stairs. It's going to be quite the adventure.

This last weekend was the beginning of moving things from inside this home to the new one. (Darryl had already taken several loads from the garage to “His” barn.)

Today we took an entire cargo trailer of yarn, wool rovings, and a few sewing things. The trailer is 12’ long x6’ wide x 7’ tall. It was packed tightly. 39 big tubs of yarn at the very front, then boxes of yarn, then wool.
(This moving crap is exposing my addictions! Darryl just looks at me and carries totes.)

Here’s a pic. ?

Re: The great migration has begun

Connie you are cracking me up. Both you and Melisande inspired me to move part of my stash into a cabinet I emptied so I can actually use my office, as, well, an office. OMG I hear you on finding stuff you'd forgotten. And I still have stash overseas. And upstate. What was I thinking? And so many bags too!
Good luck to you both,
Nilda

The great migration has begun

This last weekend was the beginning of moving things from inside this home to the new one. (Darryl had already taken several loads from the garage to “His” barn.)

Today we took an entire cargo trailer of yarn, wool rovings, and a few sewing things. The trailer is 12’ long x6’ wide x 7’ tall. It was packed tightly. 39 big tubs of yarn at the very front, then boxes of yarn, then wool.
(This moving crap is exposing my addictions! Darryl just looks at me and carries totes.)

Here’s a pic. ?

I’m pretty sure it won’t be wide open once my looms and wheels are there, but hopefully not crammed. ?

Thank you!

We are more traditional type people. Super modern we are not. Lol. ?I like a little country but not over the top. ?My sister is crazy into country. (Like to the point of ridiculous)

I’ve thought about doing some pretty tile on the wall above the counters. ?

Yes, plants! ?I haven’t moved my plants over there. ?Need to figure that out. I wish the kitchen window was a Bow window to have a deep sill. ?May have to have a talk with hubby about that!

Connie - what a great space! That's the size of an NYC apartment. FWIW - decide on whether you like super modern, country, outdoor natural, etc style to start. Then you can look at drawer pulls to match that style. Look at mags online that you like, whether it's Architectural Digest, Veranda, Better Homes, whatever. Even the Ikea catalog, or Restoration Hardware. They all have websites with ideas. Houzz and AT as Jaya mentioned are also good for inspiration. Spotlights, downlights will all modernize the space. Color theory: if you want to minimize the yellow-orange of the cabinets, stay away from purple and blue shades for the walls. Think about whether staining the cabinets something like a deeper?shade of mahogany or walnut might?be?worth doing if you want to keep the look of the wood. Or whitewashing them or staining a light grey if you want to go lighter. Think about whether something like subway tile for the walls might be good, even if it's down the line. I think?on AT they also show these stickon?wallpaper options people use for backsplashes that are reasonable and really change the look of a space. Also, plants. They'll liven up the space too.?
Mostly, congratulations!

Hi Connie
no decorating guru here but, if possible, I’d get rid of the fan & lights. Looks a bit old fashioned! Lots of down lights in the ceiling would work I think.
What a huge kitchen, could fit 3 of mine in there!?
