Boathouse door code etc.

Enter the code 1-2-3-4-ENTER on the keypad and the door will open.
If you want to stop it, press ENTER. ?If you want to retract it, press ENTER
again. ?To close it, you may be able to just press ENTER; if that doesn't work,
enter the entire 5-key code (1-2-3-4-ENTER).

I recommend that we keep the door CLOSED while people are out rowing. ?It's
simple enough to enter the code to open it. ?Leaving the yawning cavern exposed
seems too tempting.

Usually with these systems you have a 5 minute period after you have entered the entire code during which you are able to use just the ENTER key to move the door. After that time elapses you need to enter the whole code again.

As far as I remember which is about 30 years plus or minus, we never had anything stolen from the boathouse. The combination doesn’t matter as long as it’s easy to remember. We used to leave the door slightly open just for members who are Rowing to know that somebody was out there. Maybe we should put a man’s tie around the handle. Most people I have talked to they did keeping the door closed is fine. It’s more a question of making sure someone doesn’t drown in the river. If you’re having the door open a bit signals that someone is out that seems to be OK. But it’s only YRC members that would know the signal. So the combination 1234 is fine . Important thing is to make sure nobody gets drowned, and nothing get stolen. The combination is almost immaterial. It’s been a long time and the only thing I’ve ever seen stolen was three or four JetSki‘s off of Garys dock. We are safe. Any combo will do and I’ll actuallyI’m thrilled that I don’t have to pick up a garage door that’s cocked sideways after rowing two hours. It’s always been a hassle. I new combo Isn’t a really serious issue, but if we change it, be sure to tell Gary and Mark and make sure that even I, can remember it. I have no problem with 1234. It’s pretty simple and even I can remember it. But feel free to make it as complicated as you want. Nothing will be stolen from an arcane combination.

This is true . Andy Generously Let A Umass student ?borrow his personal model B Erg . He moved away and never even informed Andy that he had left the erg behind. I found this behavior to be outrageous and extremely Repulsive. Andy is generous as the day is long. But the theft was not from the boathouse, nor the combination, it was from an untrustworthy student. Ps Andy, Bob. and I row at 9:30 tomorrow’s Thursday, we cordially invite you to join us. Craig

Well, we could change the code to something less obvious, then print it in Yankee Red, White & Blue letters right above the controller in case someone forgets it.

Or we could just leave it as is.? We never really had a problem before.

I like this idea, and to add on...

I've been to other boathouses where the code was the founding year of the club. Perhaps painting "founded in 1-9-8-7" by the controller would be the right level of hint, without being too obvious!
