Join us for our virtual Meet the Author event on Thursday,?April 15 at 7 pm. Arshay Cooper will be discussing his inspiring memoir?A?Most Beautiful Thing: The True Story of America's First All-Black High School Rowing Team.

Growing up on Chicago’s West Side in the 1990s, raised by a single mother in a one-bedroom apartment, Cooper witnessed violence on the streets every day. His life was forever altered when he and a handful of fellow classmates joined a newly formed rowing team at Manley High School. Together, they rewrote their futures and transformed the sport by becoming the first all-black high school crew team in the country.

Moving, mesmerizing, and highly relevant,?A Most Beautiful Thing?was recently made into a feature-length documentary, narrated by Common and executive produced by Dwyane Wade, Grant Hill, and 9th Wonder.

Thanks for forwarding this, Bob. I'm eager to hear Arshay Cooper talk. I just saw the film last night, and it is very powerful. I had read his book SUGA WATER, which the film is based on, but nothing prepared me for how forceful and moving the film was. Try to see it if you can.
Best to all,
Nancy

Thanks Bob! I also really liked the book. (I had heard the author speak at PVRC a few years ago, and I think I left my copy at our boat house a year or two ago for people to read). I look forward to seeing the film.
Best,
Beth
