Yankee Rowing -- Club Boat Care

Yankee Rowers who use club boats,

?

We’ve had some problems regarding some of the club boats and ask for your help in avoiding them:

?

The seat screws on the Fluidesign single (the “Andy Larkin,” the green mid-weight shell) came loose from the seat frame, making the seat unusable. (It’s been repaired and should be ok now.) We think this may be due to rowers hitting the bumpers on the end of the tracks at either the catch or the finish. This can be avoided by adjusting the tracks before rowing so that you have sufficient room in your stroke so that you avoid hitting the bumpers. (The track position can be adjusted by loosening each of the two wingnuts under each track: there is one wingnut for each track that is accessible by opening the round deck hatch, and there is another wingnut for each track toward the stern end of the track, just under the deck. After adjusting the tracks, please be sure to re-tighten the wingnuts, so the tracks don’t move. But don’t tighten the wingnuts or the deck hatch too much--just make them “finger-tight” so the tracks and hatch don’t move. If you can’t figure out how to adjust the tracks, please ask me or Craig, or another club member who has a Fluidesign shell.)

?

The hulls on some of the club recreational boats (e.g., the Maas boats, or the Dreher RecRacer) have been getting scratched/ scraped up a bit, usually on the bow end of the hull. If you use wheels to transport one of these shells to and from the dock, please be extra careful when transporting the boat and when maneuvering it between the dock and the water in order to avoid the bow (or other parts of the hull) scraping the hardtop, the ramp, or the dock. If you need to put the bow down on the dock when getting it in or out of the water, please put a piece of foam or a cushion under the bow to avoid scraping it on the dock.?

?

If you have questions or need help regarding any of this, please let me know.?

?

Thanks very much,

Ernie?

To Those all those Who Use the Double Fluid Design

To all who use the Double Fluid Design:
? ? ? ? ??

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?I have put on the name? "Tom and May Carhart ~Yankee Rowing Club #1" on our Fluid Double.
I left the bow cover unzipped and just strapped down just for today and have removed the hatch cover in this heat.
?
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? For those who don't know? our YRC procedure this is how we do it:

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 1-Take the double to the slings on the grass.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 2-Undo the cover there and if wet allow to dry opened up on? slings.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 3-When finished with rowing, please wash the algae and duck-weed off the hull with the solution of soap and water from under the desk.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? (There are small cloths to the left of the towels and on the knee wall.)
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 4-Clean Out the Tracks; this leaves no grease or gunk for sand and dirt to ruin the tracks. (Small rags, left of the towels.)
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 5-You can throw the track rags away, and please don't use full towels for the tracks. This only makes a mess of a towel.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 6-Put the cover on while the boat is on the slings over the grass. Try to avoid any dirt etc from getting in the cover. Better over grass than the asphalt which picks up too much grit.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 7-In this hot weather, pull off the hatch cover and store it in one shoe.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? 8-Strap it down gently on the gunnels, the flat part of the stern and bow; firm, but not so much it will crack. It's not going anywhere.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Happy Summer and congratulations to all who earned the opportunity to compete at Youth Nationals! During the regatta in Sarasota Swift racing shells were represented in the A Finals in 4 different events taking home bronze, silver and gold in the Women's 4-, Men's 2- and the M1x respectively. Congratulations to?Niskyuna, Saratoga, Canisius and the Woodlands Rowing Club athletes and coaches for making that happen!?

?

I wanted to take a moment to share some good news! Swift Racing Shells now has a new US distributor in the US. All things Swift in the US will now be managed by?. We want to?provide you with the best support for your Swift shells and we want you to experience the?quality that Swift brings to the water. To that?end, we are working hard to re-establish a supply of boats and parts-now and for many years to come.??

?

With that in mind we have a small fleet of lightweight and midweight 1x's and 2-/x's arriving in the beginning?of August. These shells are available in Club A and Elite Plus construction molds. All of these shells come equipped with Aluminum Reverse wings. That's right... ALL of them! Even the 2-/x's include Reverse wings for both Sweep and Sculling. And as usual these boats include the standard free rigger and boat covers, a pair of slings, tool kit and DELIVERY!?

So please take a minute and come give us a look?at??to see the new face of Swift Racing Shells in the US. And as always, feel?free to reach out to me directly with any questions you may have about anything Swift, especially these incoming shells that could be yours in time for?the fall season!

Also good advice about a simple act to help protect everyone's boats.
