Two things...
Hi folks, Long time no posting on here... but I thought I'd return to ask a question and also share an idea.... I have recently revisited a duff voice card in one of my CS80's... it was low in pitch and wouldn't pull in via the tuning calibration procedure. After fault finding around the transposition gate area and finding nothing, I bit the bullet and replaced the Osc chip. That cured it... i was really hoping it wasn't that, I even lifted the Osc chip out and was still getting the same fault condition voltages on CP6 as with it in. But go figure eh...? So, on this particular CS80 this is my 4th Osc chip that has needed replacing...! My other CS80 has never had an Osc chip go... so my question is, are they any others out there who need to - quite regularly - replace a faulty Osc chip...? Or am I just really, really, unlucky...?!? I am going to attempt a full calibration on this machine sometime soon... which leads me to the old problem of sliding the cards in and out..! Catching those thin wires on the back of the print on the card to it's left... or pulling on the thin wires on the card to it's right with it's own soldered side...! So I came up with a solution which I'd like to share. It really aids in removing and also replacing the cards without any "catching" whatsoever. I had an old plastic water container lying around and I looked at it and it suddenly struck me... so I cut out the sides. It was one like this... you end up with a smooth, thin, tough plastic sheet. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/21AYN0znB9L.jpg Cut them, height wise, to just fit between the "rails" and make them deep enough so that they reach right to the back but also protrude a little past the front of the boards. After loosening the two card screws you can easily slide them in either side of the card you want to remove... and the card will just slide out in between them - with no 'catching'...! Replacing the card is just as easy - make sure both sheets are up against the cards on either side and then just part them and slide your card back in. Pull out the sheets and you're done...! Hope this makes life a little more easy for you when you're servicing. Cheers, Tom |
