CS 50 due for overhaul: Any pointers?
Hi all,
?
I have finally managed to talk my tech into having a go at my CS 50 -- any things that require particular attention or that should be looked at? My 50 has the habit of occasionally producing portamento on some notes even though no portamento has been dialled in. Sometimes (very rarely) notes with a long release have a tendency to drift upwards in pitch -- I seem to remember that this is due to some caps gone bad on the KAS board, is that true? What CMOS components should be replaced as well?
?
Any inspiration is welcome. Thanks,
?

I did a big overhaul of a CS-50 including: Change of all CMOS.
Recap of all Caps (ceramics, mylars, Polystyrene, tantalum and aluminium electrolytics changed to Panasonic FC series)
Changed all open type trimers for closed multi turn one?s.
Total recalibration
installed Kenton MIDI kit.
Now it stays rock solid in tune.
Have a CS-60 and a 50 at home for the same work.
Noticed CS-60 has all IG chips in low cost sockets (They will be desoldered and replaced by
high quality gold plated one?s)
Also have done a complete socket change on a memorymoog with one voice
dropping out of the autotune routine, with new sockets for all the CMOS and Analog IC?s
the voice will not be dropped but still is quite out of tune. It did have a few other issues which
are now gone with the socket upgrade.
Just some ideas for your CS-50.

Apparently, my messages make it to the list again. Thanks, David!
