M Board problem - heat related.
Hi guys,
So one of my M Boards (°4 on CH I) goes silent after a warm up. I have established that the tuning goes down to the point that it's not auditable. The problems that it is almost Impossible to trace because when I take it out for inspection it cools down and sounds ok again (in tune! ). Here is what I did so far: 1. Cleaned VCO's legs and applied fresh heat conducting agent between the IC and the diode. 2. I have bought that I have the same issue as MFox (described here ?so I have changed the IC3. Did not work... As I sad the problem is diagnostics. Did anyone have a similar problem? |
Re: Cs80 parts
Michael: Other than the guy in California you mentioned, I don't know of anyone with parts like that. Most everything I know of are boards and chips. The later model CP-30 pianos had the same key switches if you can find someone with one of those of the right vintage?parted out. On the other hand, with careful work, the one you have there could likely be bent back to a usable shape. I'll keep my eyes out for a lid. Tech recommendations in or around Los Angeles
Hi folks,
I’ll finally be moving my CS80 down the coast to my new home in LA in a couple of months, and I’ve been thinking of giving it a long overdue ‘spa treatment’—replacing decaying caps/CMOS chips and hopefully eliminating a few minor aftertouch gremlins in the process. Does anyone know who the trustworthy/non-CS80phobic technicians are in this part of the world? Thanks in advance. ? |
Re: CS80 Tuning Problems
开云体育As long as we’re talking just a few cents off in either direction, I always understood this was standard behaviour, and why it’s suggested that you let the synth warm up to a stable operating temp before tuning it—a rule that applied in ‘76 as much as it applies today. I’ve got the older tuning pots on mine and the tuning definitely drifts a bit as it warms up/cools down.? Given all of the calamitous problems that can arise in a CS80 following a service, I’d say you’re in pretty good shape if this is the worst of them. ;) On Mar 17, 2022, at 11:09 AM, Alexander488 <alexander488@...> wrote:

Re: CS80 Tuning Problems
开云体育Do you think it ok to keep using the keyboard for the time being, or am I risking doing damage to other parts of the CS?? On Mar 17, 2022, at 1:09 PM, Alexander488 <alexander488@...> wrote:

Re: CS80 Tuning Problems
开云体育Hi Scott, I don’t know. I can ask the technician, he would likely know since he said he had to wait for it to warm up before he could calibrate that voice.? On Mar 17, 2022, at 1:04 PM, Scott Rodriguez <synthrodriguez@...> wrote:

Re: CS80 Tuning Problems
My expectation is that the chip has become defective. There's not much else that would do that and stabilize after 15 or 20 minutes as you describe. How far out is it when it's cold before it warms up? A few cents? A half-step?. Just wondering what insights any of you might have regarding this problem? Thanks in advance for your help! Best regards, Alex |

Re: Yamaha CS-80 dimension
I have the lid stowed away but it has roughly the same dimensions?as the tolex-covered bottom part of the instrument.

Re: Yamaha CS-80 dimension
Add another 13 to 15 kilograms to the weight without the lid and you should be covered (the lid is heavy as hell but so is the rest of this thing).

I have the following ones. mm 1.206 x 681 x 295, weight 82 kg. Are these the measures WITH or WITHOUT the original lid? I needed the ones WITH the lid... Thanks Fernando ? |
