Re: IG00150, ribbon controller and levers

Hi Marteen,

I also need to replace the ribbon spring which I bought some time ago. Are there any videos out there showing the procedure?

Thanks
John

Hello All,

currently I am repairing a CS-80 which had a lot of problems, it was not powering up and several custom Yamaha chips where dead on serveral boards. I managed to get most of the chips but I can not find a IG00150 also known as M51620P. I need one for the Chorus, syntparts does not have them and I tried a lot of sources.? So if someone has stock please let me know.?

The ribbon controller is not working, I opened the ribbon? yersterday and found out that the spring inside is in a lot pieces. Are there replacement for these or are there other solutions to get the ribbon working again.?

Is it possible to open the control levers? Some of them are a bit noisy/scratchy.?

Thanks for all the input!
Maarten?

Re: Troubleshooting the Sub Oscillator Section

Does anyone have the Sub-Oscilator board replacement components LIST, in case I need to buy replacements and where you usually source them from.

Thanks

Re: Sub Oscillator Problem

Hi. Do you still have any of those bulbs for sale?

I can help you with the panel bulbs. It took me years to find replacements, so I made a group buy and have been supplying bulbs to CS80 enthusiasts ever since. I have some replacement kits left if you are interested.

Regarding your sub oscillator, I can fix it for you if you live in Chicago. Or, If you know a little bit about electronics and can follow my instructions, perhaps I could walk you through the solutions.

Re: Troubleshooting the Sub Oscillator Section

Thank you both Florian and Jonathan. I'll take your advice seriously.

Re: Troubleshooting the Sub Oscillator Section

its quite true what Florian says ... it's really not something you can approach lightly ... at least not without understanding the interactions of components and circuitry architecture. I have years and years of basic experience and good technical skills with soldering etc. myself but even i find it extremely challenging and most often frustrating. this is not to say you shouldnt do it... but you will have to be extremely committed and spend hundreds of hours learning on simpler things maybe. i do not want to discourage you .... nor does Florian ... but its something you will have to work your way up to ...
.

Re: Troubleshooting the Sub Oscillator Section

Hello

You need an oscilloscope and the ability to handle the scope and the ability to read schematics and pcb layouts.

To be honest: As long as you are not an "electronics guy" the chances that you will destroy your CS are bigger than the chances that you will repair it.
Just as simple example: one mounting rail of the cards runs supply voltage. If you get the wrong contact between a device in the synth and this mounting rail, you may blow a lot of things...

I am sorry, that I don't have better news for you.

What's the best way to go about troubleshooting the different components for failures on the board?

How do I measure the LFO IG00150 chip to see if its good or bad? Mind you, I am not an electronics guy so I would need detailed instructions. I don't have a technician anywhere near where I live so trying to do this solo.

Much appreciated.

Looking for an IG00150. Synthparts does not have any. My sub section not working.

Re: CS50 blowing uppermost fuse

could i be correct in guessing that the problem couldn't be a 'blown' primary winding since the PS is blowing fuses ? i mean it shouldn't be able to bring power through the supply with a blown primary?

Re: CS50 blowing uppermost fuse

update: i haven't had much of a chance to look into this until recently- it's looking like there is an open circuit (no connection) between the BROWN and either GREY or YELLOW wires on the primary side of the transformer -? the grey and yellow have at least five ohms between them however...? i'm just wondering if it's possible the transformer somehow blew (???) - these seem very heavy duty so it seems unlikely...

thoughts?

IG00153 VCA

HI. I am needing a IG00153 VCO if anyone has any for sale?

Re: CS50 blowing uppermost fuse

Hi Florian - there are three fuses mounted on the front left of the power supply - and they are all mounted (stacked) in a? group of three horizontally - so it is the uppermost fuse... it's a 1,25A fuse that I replaced ... i hope that clarifies something? thanks

Which one do you mean with "uppermost"?

My CS50 started blowing fuses. A preliminary check revealed nothing obvious in the power supply - is there a recommended routine for this? Maybe first checking for shorts in the board feeds?

Re: CS50 blowing uppermost fuse

Find out which voltage the fuse is protecting.
Then desolder board for board all those voltages. Measure with the ohmmeter for short. Once a board shows 0 Ohm then that board has the short somewhere. Further measure out all tantalum capacitors for short as well as other capacitors. It's a bit time consuming but there is no other way to find the short. Good luck?

Re: CS50 schematics anywhere??

well that too... though I was just referring to the quality of the scans... the CS50 documents I already had were pretty awful as far as reproduction goes

Re: CS50 schematics anywhere??

Yamaha's old service documents are among the beautifullest technical prints ever. The schematics, the graphics, the typesetting, the yellowed paper, the fold-outs, the cover, the odd metal binding... just wonderful.

I have the original CS-50 service manual, and it's easily the classiest book in my library. :-)

PS: The CS-40M document seems missing on ?
Thanks for keeping up the documentation work though!
