Re: What mods would you want?
Synth80s
Hey David!
You've got big plans already, I see.. ;) I'd love the ability to route the audio input through the filters -- yummy! What mods would you want?
Hi all.
I'd like everyone to contribute to a list of everything you'd want added to the CS80 (besides the anti-gravity device). I'm trying to come up with what I'd want to add and I'm wondering what other people have added, or thought of adding. Here's a few: MIDI This is a biggie, since it could mean many things: MIDI in MIDI out Notes, pressure, ribbon, program change Others??? Auto tune Something like on later Prophet 5, including microtuning. Digital patch storage Also like P5, and other late '70s polysynths: scan panel controls, digitize (fast & high resolution!), save to flash. We could really go crazy with this and replace the Panel sliders with motorized faders! Oscillator Sync between sounds I & II. Unison modes (like Kent is working on). Split keyboard / Multitimbral. Release velocity. For some of these, especially trying to do several at once, the keyscanning and modulation distribution boards would basically get replaced. Lots of work! Please comment/add your own! David |
GX 1
开云体育The home organ version of the GX-1 they?re talking
about could be the GX-707. I remember vaguely that I once saw a GX-1 pictured in
German "Das Musikinstrument" publication, and they referred to it as the GX-707
which looked like a dead ringer for the GX-1, with its three fridge-sized
speaker cabinets. I?ve seen two different versions of it, one with square preset
selector buttons, the other with round buttons. Gordon Reid also refers to
various different incarnations. Anyhow, what I?ve heard come out of a GX-1
(ABBA?s "The way old friends do" is a prime example) really makes it desireable.
Although a CS80 in full flight with some proper tweaking can sound quite as
nice...
?
The only other visual dead ringer for the GX-1
could be the EX-42 organ which uses the same housing but a different technology.
It?s also aimed at a different sort of clients, really.

开云体育I thought this was the one at RAK studioss (of the
late Mickie Most) but this seems to be another one. Nice to see them popping up
that often... this will lower their price considerably 8).

Great stuff! I did a little web searching and found this page: You can choose pre-defined waveforms or draw your own, either by drawing the waveform or changing the levels of the harmonics. And then you can hear the sound! As you'd expect (assuming you're into fourier series and the math of music), the pulse on the sawtooth increases the harmonics (brighter tone). David |

Finally got my prototype discrete Yamaha CS VCO working
I decided to take the discrete VCO design I'd been leaving on the
project back-burner for a year or more and finish building the prototype. It works, but it needs a little debugging, mostly in stabilizing the frequency vs. power supply tolerances. When I get a chance, I'll record the raw output of the VCO sawtooth waveform both with and without the curious little one-shot pulse that is mixed into the leading edge of each cycle. It is only 30 microseconds wide, but it definitely makes an audible difference, and gives that signature CS 'rasp' to the tone. Here are some scope shots of the actual IG00153 VCO output to see what I'm talking about. I'll add scope shots of my discrete VCO later. Crow /**/ |

CS-80 running temperature issue....
Hi again guys.
I have made a stand from 12 mill plywood that runs around the sides and back of my 80 and has two shelves for some of my other gear. My question is, although there is space ABOVE the vent slots on the left hand side (power suppy)- a good 4 inches, because it has been 'walled in' so to speak, it gets quite warm in there. How much ventilation does an 80 require, and if it IS slightly restricted might that improve the tuning stability? I could always install a small fan to blow the hot air away if need be. Cheers. Re: Expression Pedal
what Yamaha exp. pedal could be used with a CS80 without damagingthe electronics? I was thinking of buying a replacement for my exp. pedal which got lost someday before I purchased my CS. I always thought it needed some magic pedal, but I just looked at the wiring diagram. It looks like the pedal is just a potentiometer with the ends connected to ground and tip (of a 1/4" stereo plug) and the wiper attached to sleeve (the middle contact). The CS80 puts out -15volts on the tip, so you'll get between zero (pedal up/off) and -15v (pedal down/max) on the sleeve contact. Has anyone tried this? Are there standard pedals like this (I haven't looked into this stuff in years)? Does it need a special taper pot? David |

Another CS80 on ebay!
This one looks much more legit than the last one, but I have no
personal knowledge of the seller. His feedback list shows him buying lots of Hammond organs parts and an organ lately, all with positive feedback from the sellers. p.s. - I'm sending this as a Special Notice, since I think many people would have a lot of interest in this, and it's time sensitive. Please let me know if you have an issue with this. |
Reminder about group features
Hi all.
Just a quick reminder about what's available in this Yahoo CS80 group, in addition to messages. Under Files, I've got three mp3s of tunes featuring CS80. They're pretty low bit rate to make the files small. Please suggest other songs that show off the CS80. Under Database, I created a really simple, easy to use, list of CS80s known to people on the list. Please take a minute and enter your keyboards! It's very quick and easy. Under Links, I have bunch of links to info about the CS80, both technical and about artists who use them. Please send me other links to add! The Photos section is empty at the moment. Feel free to put in some pics of instruments, or people (including you) playing. And, for those of you who deal with this list via email, don't forget to check the site at . In addtion to the stuff I just listed, you can also see an archive of past messages. Please send me any suggestions about changes or additions to this site to make it better and more useful. Thanks, David |
