FT-301 alignment: Band pass filter adjustment results
I've been working on a 301 that I recently purchased. In nice shape physically, cleaned up really well. Gave it the "deoxit" treatment, now going through some adjustments. First thing I wanted to look at was the band pass filters. I followed the alignment instructions in the manual using a sweep generator / o'scope. Seemed to go okay, but I was curious was the results really looked like. I used a rigol spec. analyzer/tracking generator to sweep the filters and the results initially were okay, but I tweaked them in. It's a lot easier and faster looking at the results in real-time. Photos have been uploaded.
I'll try to capture/upload more results of various alignment steps as I go through the unit. Enjoy! |
Hi Jim,
Thanks for uploading these pictures. Could you send how you connected the equipment to be able to get those results? This might help others to do the same. The Yaesu manual is not good with details. It would be great if we could have a library of other adjustments that the manual/service does not show but are important as well. Michael |
Thanks Randy.
I'm probably going to go trhough the entire alignment. I purchased the rig as the 3rd owner. When I talked with the previous owner, he had not done any work on the rig, but there are notes written in the (original) manual that leads me to believe that someone else (the original owner?) had attempted performing "adjustments". Not knowing that state of the rig because of this, I will likely attempt a full alignment. I will end up doing this piecemeal over the coming weeks/months as I still work full time and don't have large blocks of time. This approach works for me, as I use the rig in between and see if there are any improvements. - It's like getting a new rig after each alignment :) .... FB on the ELCON - everytime I've gone to their site, I can't get the site in English to be able to order. With the latest world events, I'm not even sure I could get one now. I do have a 301D that will be next on my list after I finish up with this 301 and this "D" does have missing LED segments, so I will have to do something.. Cool in the AM. I read somewhere once that this rig is good on AM, I will be checking it out. A good candidate for a D-104 perhaps.... I just finished the s-meter alignment (in a new thread). Take care. -Jim (NO2P) |
Hi Michael,
I've worked with many technical writers in my career and I have a lot of respect for them because it's extremely difficult to write technical guides not knowing the experience of the end-user or what equipment they are using. It's difficult to post instructions, because of this. Not too mention any liability if someone happens to blow up their rig or (more likely) what can be very expensive test equipment.? One mistake can put 100w into equipment designed for micro-volts and puff there goes $1000's.. Many years ago, I blew up an HP-435b power meter (forgot to put the 60db attenuator in front of it). I learned a very valuable lesson early in my professional life.. You typically only make this mistake once.... One I will never forget.. Basic equipment setups can be found on the web. The yaesu guide is "okay" considering when it was written (in the 70's). I have more to say on this in a new thread for the s-meter alignment (coming soon). |
开云体育The Elcon site only has some English.I had to copy-past-translate a bit. The owner speaks perfect English in emails. I worked with him to build a universal VFO Stab to go with the 301 specific model. I deployed it in my SB-104A. He lives in a tiny Swiss city in the Alps. Superb engineering, rock solid VFO now. The display system is likewise superb. It comes with a little Phillips remote control to change setting with. Way cool. 100% AM MOD requires tat you set the carrier level on the AM board down to 20-30 watts the leave headroom. I use a D-104 with? picky AM group out here. The Elcon displays are clear and sharp. My camera is making them look fuzzy. Cheers, Randy W7CPA On 9/5/2022 5:40 AM, james_buttons via
