Well, x6100 in ssb mode is mixing signals from mic and from usb/internal soundcard. But it applies a 300-3000 Hz bandpass filter before modulating RF. This logic is burned within BASE firmware. It can be patched for changing filter parameters (at least low pass frequency), but I never test it below 160 Hz.

Is it possible to have an external tone generator, like a piece of hardware that sits between the mic and radio?? Or even an app that uses cat control and audio io, letting you speak into the app, it adds the tone and passes it to the radio?

Don't 6m repeaters use FM modulation? Sounds like that filtering is specific to ssb.

Not possible is my understanding.

Any hope of getting PL tones in the firmwares

Looks like the x6100 would be capable of repeater operation if it only had PL tones. ? I've seen some discussion they are possible or coming, any news on this front?

Honest question¡ why would anyone need a home wifi password that¡¯s 41 characters or longer?
?
That might have been a question in the meeting room when they were designing the WPA/WPA2 standards. ?They decided that 63 alphanumeric and 64 hexadecimal characters made sense.
?
The embedded software supports standard length passwords, that's how I was able to get it finally connected to my WIFI, I logged in over USB and set the password. ? So we're talking about an unnecessary limitation in the GUI field on the radio.
?
Why do I have a longer password? "Because it's there" ? and I'd have to change 50 computers/devices to shorten the password.

Re: What's the best latest firmware?

Just use the band change hardware buttons on the top of the radio.

Stephen,

definitely R1CBU / R2RFE 's latest v. 0.26.1

This firmware is just amazing.
You'll find it

Works flawlessly on my old X6100 which has since regained some interest as it offers a lot on board!

I haven't used my x6100 in over a year. I expected the official software to be updated by now to fix problems, I installed it, but it fails to set the time correctly from the ntp server, so I assume it's still buggy.
So my question is what's the best firmware to run on this thing at this point

Re: What's the best latest firmware?

26.1 found at: ? limits WIFI passwords to 40 characters. ?I have a longer password. ?So I can't use it on my house network... ?I was able to test it on my guest network which has a smaller password, but that isolates the radio from my other devices on my house network.

I have a love hate relationship with this radio, I wouldn't give it away. ? What I would like is to get the current best firmware to work. ?I suspect that would be a version of R1CBU
?
In my county we are not allowed to just throw electronics in the trash, I'd have to drive 20 minutes each way to the recycling station, which is incentive to keep it :)
?
I see where the 40 character limit is in the code, if I get ambitious I will just fork the repository and fix it for myself.

Re: What's the best latest firmware?

26.1 works fine on my wifi.? Running newest stock with patched base and go back and forth between R1CBU and patched stock depending on what I'm doing though I tend to be on R1CBU a lot more.? NTP update works on R1CBU but I generally look at my watch or phone for time anyway, and if using FT8 I'm running it on tablet anyway.? If you don't like your X6100 I'd be happy to pay the postage to send it to me and keep it out of the landfill!?

Given there are two firmware options, from radiodity the official, that firmware sets the wrong time, or the r1cbu firmware, that i cant use because it limits the wifi password to 40 characters, im not sure which you are refering to.
in the past i found r1cbu to be much better than stock, the one from oleg, the one version i tried today is from the most recent announcement of 0.26 i could find here, and it was from github. could not use wifi
?
so where should i get working firmware? ?

Re: What's the best latest firmware?

Not sure what you mean.? The latest release .261 sets the time via WiFi.? If you use GPS, then it also sets your QTH.? Sat in my car today at lunch and logged 5 QSOs in 45 minutes setting time and QTH by GPS.??
?
Thank you Gregory.

I added an issue on github, the gui only allows up to 40 chars for a wifi password, wpa and wpa2 can be up to 63

Oh I see in the latest manual that NTP updated just doesn't work anyways and manual time setting is needed. ?Still is the stock firmware good to go with or should I go with the alternate firmware?

Re: R1CBU-speaker

I confirm inverted state in R1CBU soft, but I cannot find the reason of this setting in OEM firmware. Most popular head kits have 32ohm in each ear and they 'behave' like speakers, not phones. Switching to 'Phones Profile' just do? significant Volume Down and nothing else.
