Re: Buildroot 2024.11 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware
Markus,
thanks for giving it a try and reporting the issue with FT8 and CW decoding.
I am going to look at that over the weekend.
?
Jason,
since Markus was able to build it on Debian, which is very similar to Ubuntu (I use Fedora here), if you post the exact error message you had when trying to build it, we might be able to help you. Perhaps it is just a missing dependency.
Once we figure out the problem, I'll also add a note about that in the README.

Re: Buildroot 2024.11 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware
Hi Franco,
i have sucessfully build with the updated buildroot on Debian sid.
A first small test showed it boots without problems and start, but FT8 and CW decode don't work.
FT8 has only a black background without waterfall and nothing is decoded.
All other things seem to work.

X-6100 and Xiegu XPA125B
I have a newbie question for the users here who have both th X-6199 and the XPA125B. I bought the X-6100 a few months ago and have been doing very well with 10 Watts but decided to treat myself to an early Christmas present, the XPA125B. With 1/2 watt in I'm getting 80 or 90 watts out or so. Its working good. My question is when I'm in bypass mode is it ok to use 10W into the amp on bypass and not cause damage to the amp? My second question and an observation, with the amp powered OFF and using 10 watts I'm not seeing but a few watts out to the antenna not the full 10W I have the X-6100 set to. Do I need to always have the amp powered on and in bypass mode to use just 10 watts?
?
Thank you in advance.

Re: R1CBU FT8
I tried to launch WSJT-x based code and it takes about 15 seconds to decoding on x6100.
Also I measured quality of ft8lib - it can decode ~ 80% of messages from results of WSJT-x. Regarding SNR - WSJT-x and ft8-lib uses different logic to calculate SNR - so values might vary.

Re: Buildroot 2024.11 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware
Jason,
it will probably be in a few days - this morning I just found a couple of bugs, where the profile has the environment variables 'PAGER' and 'EDITOR' set to invalid paths ('/bin/less' instead of '/usr/bin/less', and 'mcedit', if I remember correctly).
Plus I have a full time job (in lunch break now) and a family.
?
Perhaps, if Georgy is interested, we could use the newer buildroot for some future version of the X6100 R1CBU/R2RFE firmware instead of having two versions.

Re: R1CBU FT8
Gregg,
you may want to read this message that John Seamons (ZL/KF6VO, of KiwiSDR fame) recently posted to the NextGenSDRs group about the difference in performance (and usage of CPU resources) between ft8lib and WSJT-X: /g/NextGenSDRs/message/2735
The CPU resource comparison by Howard Su is also interesting: /g/NextGenSDRs/message/2737
?
I imagine their considerations for the Web-888 also apply to low power CPUs like the one inside the X6100.

Re: Buildroot 2024.11 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware
Thanks for the effort in this development Franco!
?
Can you setup Github so that it will compile the releases like Georgy does? I followed the instructions on my WSL Ubuntu 24.XX environment, but it croaked. Some may not have a dedicated development environment, or have talents well suited to troubleshooting compile errors.
?
Great work on getting the base-OS updated!

R1CBU FT8
Just wondering if the signal reports on FT8 are correct or is it just the software is not able to decode below -11.? -11 seems to be the weakest signals I can receive.? If I switch and run WSJT I can get decoded reports of -22.
?
Inquiring minds would like to know.
?
However I just love be able to run FT8 and FT4 in a single radio unit including logging.? Love it and use it a lot.

Buildroot 2024.11 for R1CBU/R2RFE firmware
First of all many thanks to Oleg and Georgy (and Rui Oliveira) for all their hard work on the custom firmware for the X6100!
?
Over the last month or so I have been working on upgrading the base OS ('buildroot') of their firmware to the latest version; a few days ago buildroot released their version 2024.11, so I upgraded the base OS for their firmware to version 2024.11, and I think it is ready for others to play with.
?
I just pushed my buildroot external tree to this repository:
?
For those running Linux, building a new SD card should be very easy - the instructions are here:
?
This is a beta release for those who who are familiar with the software running on the X6100, and don't mind building from source; once the bugs are ironed out, I plan to build and publish an sdcard image.
?
These are some of the highlights of this latest version:
?
There are more changes I made, but I think these are most important that I can think of.
?
The usual (and important) caveat: this is still an early beta version and very likely has a few bugs, but if you are not afraid of trying new things (it won't brick your radio), please give it a try, and let me know if you find any problem.

Re: R1CBU firmware 0.27.0
I have a question... I upgraded to v0.28 and love it a lot. But every time I upgrade I have to redo all my settings. I understand that there's a way to backup and then reload my settings... Can somebody give a summary on how to do that? Would be grateful... redoing it every time is no fun.

You will never get CTCSS.? There is no way to support it.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI don't know the R1CBU version, but I can tell you that the official version 1.19 still has many bugs. - The squelch does not work in FM mode! (In addition, there is no CTCSS which is annoying for FM repeaters in 29 Mhz) - The quality of
the internal microphone is very average. In the menu, past
level 35 out of 50, the microphone no longer works. - The SWR measurement is done at maximum power (5W) despite the power setting at minimum (0.1W) - There are still as many "birdies" as on the other versions! I hope there will be more improvements! 73'S Jean-Marc? F1ORG

TX not working with FT8
My X6100 stopped TXing when using FT8.? I've tried WSJTX and MSHV, using FLRIG and Hamlib.? I've also tried Factory Reset and reinstalled the 1.19/1.18 firmware from Radioddity.? Any suggestions???
?
Has the R1CBU firmware solved this issue for anyone?
?
Thanks for any help!? Tony KE1TLG |

The QSO process ran smoothly tho' I did need to remember to turn the MFK knob to keep current on the display view. The power and ALC numeric display is very helpful. Only wish list item is a running QSO total count display from the log if possible. -- 73 DE K1TAP |

Maybe someone can answer¡ What are the advantages for updating the official firmware to 1.19? I typically use the R1CBU alternative software, so would upgrading the official firmware provide any benefits?
