¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello All,I am in the process of learning morse and received a paddle today. Thanks to Oleg I have found speech prompts to the key menu. However, my paddle key is behaving as a straight key. Re: Question about battery charging / conditioning
Hello Everyone,
?
Before purchasing this radio, I did some readings on this group and other readings available out there. Two issues seem to be major concern among the owners of this rig: 1) internal battery charge/discharge management; heat generated by digital modes. There are other little issues, but I will focus on this two.
Received the radio last Thursday, Dec 7th, and being aware about those two big concerns, before any other kind of radio usage, I started immediately checking the battery according to information found in https://www.radioddity.com/blogs/all/xiegu-x6100-battery-charging-questions-and-answers. The radio came with what I believe to be the last firmware (APP v1.1.7 Aug 25 2023 and BASE v1.1.6 Mar 7 2023).
?
[Charge/Discharge 1]
Started charging at 8:00pm (Solid Green)
Stopped charging at 8:00am (Solid Green)

? ? 7.7 volt (White Status) after 1 hour of listening
? ? 7.4 volt (Yellow Status) after 2 hour of listening
? ? 7.3 volt (Red Status) after 3 hour of listening

?
[Charge/Discharge 2]

[Charge/Discharge 3]

Stopped charging at 10:50am (Solid Green)
Started discharging at 11:00am (8.2 volt)
? ? 7.7 volt (White Status) after 1 hour of listening
? ? 7.4 volt (White Status) after 2 hour of listening

The 4 charge/discharge cycles were achieved during the weekend (Saturday 9 and Sunday 10) and on in each cycle, allowed the radio to charge for 8-14 hours, always using the provided charger. During discharge, that was always is listening only, connected to YouLoop passive antenna, I would leave on until it shutdown himself.
Yesterday, Monday 11th, I used the radio for one hour or so and turned it off. Towards the end of day, I turned on the radio again, about 7.5 volt, and used until it turns off due to lack of battery. During this discharge cycle, the 5th, I noted that the battery status color code did no longer went from White->Yellow->Red, but instead, remaining always White while the voltage go down. I plugged radio to charger and this time, the green led did not blink while it was charging.
?
There is serious problem on how power/battery is managed by this radio, no matter how carefully you follow recommendations... assuming that I did so.
Sorry for long post and probably some english grammar/spell erros :( |

Lisa, I too have a 5105. That's a good radio. It has a little bit of trouble with the internal CW keyer at high speeds but nothing I can't live with. If the 6100 was more like the 5105 I'd keep it.? You're right about Xeigu?being SNAIL slow at updating their software. I think they?only have one engineer working on all of the projects and he or she is only hitting the high spots in the waves of tasks that are in front of him. It appears as though they don't have the resources?to keep designing new radios and support the older designs. That's what it looks like from afar, anyway.? I know for years it was like that at my company. We lost one electrical engineer after another and I was the last of 5 that were here and I too was barely managing to keep up. Not doing much work down in the grass and only hitting the high spots, or putting out fires for 4 years, so I know how it can get in Engineering.Nevertheless, Xeigu?should keep up with the demand they are creating instead of doing a halfway job on everything they do. :) On Mon, Dec 11, 2023 at 2:06?PM Lisa WO?L <lr7521061@...> wrote:

I think that for the money the X6100 is a very good value.? The issues I¡¯ve had with it are nit-picky at worst.? The basic functionality is ¡°there¡±.? I¡¯m not selling mine no matter how cool the X6200 is.? But I do want Xiegu to continue following through with firmware updates and to make all of the X6100¡¯s promised features to work before I¡¯ll consider buying another Xiegu.? If they come through then for my part, all will be forgiven.? At that point I¡¯ll start thinking seriously about the X6200. On Mon, Dec 11, 2023 at 15:09 WF5W <wf5w.ms@...> wrote:

Re: Total NOOB question
Sorry to hear that. I think it is good radio, not great, but good. If I had the money to pay 3x the amount (almost $1500, last I looked) for the IC-705, I would probably get that. But I am retired, and I can't afford the Cadillac. I got the best I could with the money I had. I do have a 7300, (bought when I had a little more money), for a backup, should the need arise. I have done about 13 or 14 POTAs with x6100. And I can't complain at all. I have a powerpole to 5525 barrel jack which supplies 13.8v and I always do 10w. I can't complain at all. David, I prefer to stay with the firmware from Xiegu that comes with the X6100.? My main interest is CW operation.? Some want other features like BlueTooth remote operation and I think other OSs provide this.? I prefer the RF operations so I stick with the stock firmware.? There are bugs in the RF section of the X6100, but bugs I can work around.

Re: Total NOOB question
I¡¯m sorry to hear about your experience.? I can¡¯t deny that numerous other owners have experienced battery/charging issues as well.? This issue seems to have been on the increase in recent months.? Idk if Xiegu made a design change to the radio or a vendor change for some components or what¡¯s going on.? I consider myself lucky in that I haven¡¯t had such issues, my only gripe is that Xiegu has been excruciatingly slow in releasing firmware updates to get all of the promised features working.? I also have an X5105 which I¡¯m completely satisfied with as everything on it works.? Any radio from any manufacturer can have issues but Xiegu seems to be unbelievably slow to resolve them.? It¡¯s for the above reasons that I won¡¯t be buying an X6200 no matter how cool it turns out to be unless and until Xiegu gets everything on the X6100 working properly.? Even then I¡¯ll be monitoring the X6200 group closely and won¡¯t even consider buying until the inevitable ¡°Xiegu-bugs¡± get worked out.? I truly hope that Xiegu monitors this group and pays close attention.? I think enough of us now know what¡¯s likely coming and won¡¯t be jumping in until we know that the X6200 is all that it should be. I'm a nay-sayer... While the radio is "ok" as it's designed, it still is a long way from trustworthy. Mine had a battery failure (the radio's weak spot, the power supply) and the charger doesn't work. I'm offering it as it is for $300 plus shipping, if anyone wants it. Personally, I hate the radio. If you don't mind not having an internal supply, it's good enough. But if you want batteries inside, don't bother with mine. If you want it, and you live inside the USA, let me know and I'll send it to you. You can pay my PayPal account. Includes the microphone, and whatever else I can find. I think I even still have the box. 73 Frank AA5IT |
Re: Total NOOB question
You will have fun with your new radio! Ignore the nay sayers, read solutions on groups.io and ask questions if you need help. I bought an inexpensive Microsoft Surface Go just for field use. Easy to install WSJTX and HAMRS (free logging) If I damage it in the field, so what. I put two of these heatsinks on the back for cooling. No fan noise. For connecting the computer the radio I use the USB-A to USB-C cable that came with the radio with a USB-C to USB-A adapter. The USB-C to USB-C cable that came with radio didn¡¯t work. I bring a Bioenno 12 V battery, either 6 Ah or 12 Ah, depending how long I will be out. For multi day trips I bring both and a small solar panel. Does it deliver? This summer I was on Patos Island, WA for the lighthouse event. We used an end-fed wire about 18¡¯ up on one end. I got a contact confirmed with Malawi, 7Q7EMH, FT8, 17 m. That¡¯s 9663 miles with 10 W. |

as you have a New radio, can you please test the Built in Mic, and please tell me if it is working any good as my radio is about 1.5 years old now and the in built mic does not work very well, yet one i got a few months before the mic worked well, but i had to return the radio Thanks Dave 2E0DMB? |
