Re: Portable vertical antenna suggestions
I've had good luck with the AX-1 and AX-2 antennas from Elecraft.? I've never had a failed SOTA/POTA activation when using them, and work a fair amount of DX.? Mainly EU, but did work Ukraine before as well.? 3 minutes to set up and has a very small footprint, which is great for stealthy or high traffic area activations.? The photo below was in the middle of the Dahlonega, GA town square around 11am over the Christmas holidays.? No one gave me a second look. ? |
Re: Portable vertical antenna suggestions
Thank you. ?I ran across the PAC-12 antenna while searching. ?It requires assembly, and is currently out-of-stock. ?Since I only own an X6100, I am limited to 5 Watts. ?When time and opportunity allow, I will teach myself soldering: lots of videos on the subject, whether the videos are good or not remains to be seen. ?I was taught to gas and TIG welding, brazing, and crimping, but not soldering.

Re: Getting started with a paddle
Congrats on learning the paddle, Georgina. I feel that Morse code aficionados should attempt to become proficient with all four major methods - paddles, straight keys, bugs, and cooties. I believe it adds to both your enjoyment of the mode and also your proficiency. Plus, it's good for the brain:-)

Portable vertical antenna suggestions
Currently with my X6100, I have been using wire antennas; these work. ?The downside to wire antennas is finding elevation points to string them. ?I am seeking suggestions for a portable lightweight vertical antenna to use on my X6100, from a U.S. based company (shipping inside U.S.). ?I found the below linked antenna, and it attaches the way I wish it to attach: to the radio without coax cable, no masts, no tripods. ?I can have an antenna support 3D printed: link below. ?I appreciate any suggestions.

Re: version 0.19 : my GPS is not more working
GPS is working fine on my unit with a GPS dongle. I would check the antenna connection and antenna location. The connection needs to be correctly made. The antenna for most dongles needs a unobstructed view of the sky. You should also check the GPS dongle with another computer to ensure it is working correctly. If you do not have another computer then try the previous version of firmware to confirm that GPS is working. These are some pointers to determine what is the cause of the problem.

Thank you Oleg for your effort! I think option 2 is the best, maybe putting a timeout that starts your firmware after x seconds. 73 IE4ENS Robert |
Two firmware for the price of one
#R1CBU-Firmware
To solve the sound problem, I had to build a system compatible with the original GUI application. Those. Now I can run the original application directly from my firmware. And it works.
Those. no need to reboot anything (or remove SD card). I can enable this feature. There are several options: 1) I can launch the original one from my application using a button. But it¡¯s no longer possible to switch from the original to mine. Only through a reboot. 2) You can do this when loading a menu with a choice of what to load. I really don¡¯t know why this would be useful. Food for thought. 73! |

Hi Sam, yes, this behaviour can arise and I noticed it depends on the audio level set on the slider on the right of the wsjtx panel that if too high may corrupt the cat connection between PC/usb and X6100. It happens that the connection changes from ttyACM1 to ttyACM2 so if you reconfigure to ttyACM2 in placde of ttyACM1 the connection resumes. You can also replug the USB C cable to get the connection resume to ttyACM1. All this happens with Linux PC, I do not know what happens on Windows connections. In addition I can say that it is always necessary a lot of tinkering on this audio level to get the connection working every time I power up the rig to initiate a new session. Note: above description applies to factory firmware, I never tried wsitx on Oleg's.

I got my X6100 two weeks ago.? I live in Maryland.? My first SSB contact with the new rig was from my QTH using a dipole in the attic was a ham in Texas.? He said my signal was 58 and told me my audio sounded good.?
I got FT8 working without any trouble once I saw the posting in this group about the USB cable issue.? Using a standard USB C male to USB C male cable between my laptop and X6100 didn't work - I tried a couple of different ones.? Then I researched this group and saw that I? needed to use the Xiegu supplied cable and put a USB A to USB C adapter on the end of it to connect to my laptop - that worked? Can anyone explain why?? I took the X6100 to a local park and run off an external battery at 10 watts on 20 meters. My first FT8 connection was with a ham in Perth, Australia.? I was -16dB there.? Looking at PSKreporter, I had hits all over the South Pacific, USA, and Europe.? I was using a quarter-wave vertical a foot about the ground with two quarter-wave radials above the ground.? I haven't tried CW on the air yet.?? I am mostly disappointed with the SWR function.? It makes me scratch my head why they would even turn on the feature giving it's configuration!? As elsewhere reported in this group, it puts out 5 watts while it's measuring the SWR.? Mine sweeps from 6.9 MHz to 7.9 MHz.? I can't change the start or stop frequencies, nor the wattage output.? This is really, really a bad thing. I did the battery four-cycle routine and the battery keeps the radio on in the receive mode for around 2-3 hours. However, I found a potential bug.? I turned off the charger function in the menu while I was running on an external battery in the park.? When I came home something weird happened.? I turned the radio on using the internal battery and it showed no charge and shutdown in 30 seconds. It was fully charged when I left for the park. ? I will have to see if I can duplicate that behavior.? It's like the internal battery was draining while the external battery was connected.?? Hopefully, that was a fluke or caused by something I inadvertently did wrong. I would like for the Bluetooth to work with my earbuds.? The radio connects with them, but no audio comes out.? That's not a big deal, but it would be nice if it worked.? All in all, the radio is usable and impressive in some ways.? After my experience with it and all the issue reported in this group, I concluded the X in X6100 must mean experimental.? Fingers crossed Xiegu will debug and flesh out the software/firmware and get everything working properly.?? I haven't installed the latest Xiegu download yet.? I think I read here that it will cause the CAT to quite working - is that true?? -- Mike NN3I |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Oleg,OK, Oleg, that is great I didn't cover any of the key options in my podcast. There is so much more to discover. Ok it sounds like it is putting the radio in transmit.
