I'm always surprised to see that so many radio hams still use Windows, surely not the best OS for technical matters that we OMs deal with.

Worked well using Linux Mint. Windows wants to format the card since one of the partitions is unreadable. A good reason to keep a Linux machine around, even if you normally use Windows.

There are two most common FAT partitions on the SD card. It's a surprise to me that Windows can't handle this!

OK, the Micro SD is not formatted for Windows.
You use your Windows computer together with a tool called Balena Etcher only to image the SD card, but the format in the card is not Windows.
At least, on my laptop I don't see any file structure in there. in fact, my Windows computer is asking me to Format the card, which I don't do. If I do, will destroy Oleg's firmware.
So, what I did, was to install the Micro SD card on my small Inovato Quadra computer. Using the Inovato Quadra, It is Linux.
I was able to "see" the correct file structure that exist on the Micro SD card, including the DATA folder.
Using the web browser, on the Inovato Quadra, downloaded the file from Oleg's site and drop the file in the Micro SD "Data" folder.
Took the SD card out of the Inovato Quadra and installed it on my Xiegu X6100 and turned it on.
First time it frozen booting up with only the "Wolf singing to the moon" logo and got stuck there.
Shut it down and restarted again. This time it booted up correctly.
Checked all the features that Oleg mentions on his message and all is now working fine.
Since I have a small USB keyboard, I had previously input My Grid Square and Call sign but I noticed that data as been erased from the radio.
Same with the CW messages I had already recorded. All gone! I guess it was part of the mod???
I had to input again the same data, but this time, I did it with the screen keyboard and worked fine. That part was solved.
Checked FT8 and FT4 on 6 meters and it was also working. Have not used it yet to make contacts. Still don't know how to use those modes in this radio.
I use a laptop for that. Will try and then, if convinced, may start using this feature of Oleg's firmware.
Went down to 500KHz and was also working.

Too bad the bands allocations according to your region 1,2 or 3 are not selectable. That would have been nice. Maybe on Oleg's radio project he is working on will be complete with this feature.
Was and excellent idea.

Anyway. That is my report for the time being.
Appreciate if you guys correct me on what I said here. Ham radio is about learning!

The SD card has 3 partitions: Boot, DATA, rootfs. You need the partition where the params.db file is already located

I had a similar situation. In my case it was not a tone. The radio went on transmit (TX) and stood there. Nothing worked. Software Reset didn’t solve it. Nothing. Had to open the back and disconnected the battery. Only then, the problem stopped. My radio was getting warm. Good I had a dummy load connected otherwise the finals could have burned out.
This happened after a firmware update.

This radio needs, repeat, needs a hard reset button.

I placed the .tgz file in the root directory. on boot up and after your logo display the screen goes black.

I just had something weird happen.? I was on 10 meters just listening.? I had the Xiegu Speaker plugged in.? I left and returned and the radio was producing this tone.? I could tune up and down.? I could switch bands.? It still produced this tone.? I turned it off.? And it was still producing this tone.? I unplugged everything.? The green light was still on and still producing a tone.? I turned it back on and it was still producing the tone.? I cycled it on and off a few more times and it was still producing a tone.? I did a factory reset via the menu.? It was still producing a this tone.? I decided to take a video of this and even did a factory reset.? And it was still producing a tone.? While off I could plug the Xiegu speaker in and it this tone would switch back and forth from the speaker to the x6100 while OFF and unplugged.? The green light remained on still too.? I got to turn this thing off.? Did some searching and could not find anything.? So in I go.? First time opening it up.? I was aware of the ball bearings after watching the tear down videos.? I knew where to go.? Manufacturers really should try producing their own teardown videos like that instead of random people, anyway I digress.? So I pull the sides take the two screws holding the back battery plate off and there is the battery.? I pull the connector out half way and sound stops.? The connector doesn't come out all the way because of the battery.? I slide it back in and no sound.? Put it back together and power it back on.? No sound.? Connect my antenna tune back to 10m and everything appears to be fine.? My concern is I now have to carry a screwdriver to open up my radio.? Will this happen again?? What could have caused it?? Anyone know?? When I was in the menu while the tone was going off, i went in to the system info and under the Base version it did not have "V1.1.6", it just had a question mark "?" here.? When I go into this menu after doing the hard reset like I did, then it shows up correctly.? Has anyone ever encountered this issue?

Fixed:

• Callsign and QTH dialogs
• Added band 6m for FT8/FT4
• Changed low freq to 500kHz

How install:

Copy the to the DATA section of the SD card and turn on the power of the device.

The firmware does not support switching keyboard layouts. Those. it is always in English mode. Those. You can use any with English layout.

I plan to purchase a mini keyboard for my X6100, complete with USB C connector and built-in hub. Since different languages use different keyboard layouts (in DE z and y are swapped, we got umlauts and lack some other symbols), my question is what keyboard to buy to avoid "finger gymnastics" to reach certain characters - US? DE? Can it be selected in software?

BTW thanks for your great work, and I can fully understand your decision to stop/minimize your frustration with Xiegus design decisions. Keep us informed about the progress of your project.
