Yes, this is an old and well-known problem, I have written about it many times. Sometimes sound playback disappears if you switch to DIG modulation. So far I have not been able to overcome this. Only restarting the BB processor helps (this happens when the application is restarted by long pressing the Lock button)

Re: PTT Click with R1CBU f/w

Yes when the ATU finishes there is a kerchunk also. Seems to be some kind of a systems sound.
However after some hours of trying out various options, it seems to happen only when the internal speaker is used, as the volume needs to be quite high for that.
Using headphones or powered external speaker the volume can be reduced substantially and there is no kerchunk.
Dammed if I know why the two firmwares should be different, but at least I have a solution.
And the external speaker gives better audio that the inbuilt one.

Hi Oleg,

First of all, thank you very much for your work. Some reports from me.

CW decoding does work for me, but I didn't try 0.17 to compare. It really decodes a lot of 'T' and 'E' but in general it works. It stops working when you set Filter low to 0Hz and starts working again when you set it higher.

>>> NO . CW Decoder works ABSOLUTLY NOT more in 0.19 / He gives ONLY STUPID and RANDOMIZED letters on the screen !!! SORRY . <<<

First X6100 boot with freshly flashed SD card results with spectrum filling full height and no waterfall, but there is reception. Changing RF gain does nothing to the display. After reboot, everything works as expected.

There is something fishy with voice message recording - it does not record and does not play on the radio and does not tx out of the box - on the first boot. Also, seems rec gain is too high out of the box. After several restarts though I have managed to record a decent message and was able to play and TX it. Then I have tracked a bug to such scenario: boot, go to messages, send, play, everything works, then exit messaging app and long-press ATU to auto-tune the antenna. After this messages do not play (silence) and do not get sent (or gain is very low). Running SWR scan also disables messages.

While TXing message, HMic is active.

When you delete the last message, it is not cleared from the list.

Playback and record sliders in settings have a max value that's in the middle of the slider. I.e. if you set gain to max (full slider), you'll find it in the middle next time you switch to settings.

When I connect earphones to S/P port and Push PTT on HMic to transmit, I hear myself in earphones but pitch-shifted down. Event though Moni Level is set to 0. When I play recorded message, I hear normal voice, but while tx of voice message I also can hear pitch-shifted down ogre voice mixed with the recording. I have noticed, this is related to output power - more power, stronger the ogre voice during tx.

I have experienced spectrum and waterfall hangups several times. It seems to be related to VCO frequency display overlay. If I scroll too fast or the radio experiences a hickup due to switching to different ATU config or a very strong QRM happening and overloading the frontend while scrolling over frequencies fast, spectrum gets stuck and waterfall is not scrolling anymore. It updates just when changing frequency and then stops again. I have suspected frequency display overlay, so I switched it off and did not experience this problem after that.

Hope these bug reports will help, let me know if you need more details. Once again, thank you for your hard work. LY1MIC 73.

Has to be something in the settings?

New X 6100 was working fine on all modes and suddenly will transmit on FT 8

I got my new X 6100 yesterday and set everything up for CW and FT 8 using external 13.5 V power supply. I made several FT8 contacts yesterday afternoon. This morning I turned on the new X 6100 using the internal battery only. I set up preset messages for CW and made a few contacts on FT8. Now when?X 6100 goes into transmit using WSJT-X, the transmit is only one bar, no output and the SWR shows nothing (no line). I put it in CW mode , and it behaves normally . Can anybody give me some advice on what to do? Thanks in advance.

PTT Click with R1CBU f/w

Hello all.
Tried the R1CBU f/ware version 0.19.0.
Very impressive, however after playing with it for a while? have an odd problem.
Using the supplied Xiegu fist mike, when the PTT is released there is an extremely loud kerchunk from the radio.
Does not happen with the installed Xiegu firmware.
Anyone any thoughts ?

I finally received my dummy load , made some tests and the transceiver is working normally ... seemed to be an RF issue.. problem SOLVED? with an RF choke that I built following the instructions that I found at hf kits.com... thank you all for all your opinions and help !!!

Re: New version 0.19.0 #R1CBU-Firmware

Im using the latest version and the CW decoder works for me. ??

Re: New version 0.19.0 #R1CBU-Firmware

Jens,

I don't use CW so I can't help you there.

With 0.19.0, I have no problem with my GPS USB Dongle. It works correctly, syncing my internal time to GPS.

I did a write-up a while back that described a step-by-step procedure to get the internal time synced to the GPS Dongle.

The main problem I would guess that people would have is their initial internal time (including the date and year) is not set up close enough to the GPS time. My write-up includes everything I do to get the GPS to sync the internal time.

Re: Ideal ALC for digital modes?

This all feels like good advice. I *can* get the ALC to kick in if I use the ATU, but doing so seems to carry a high risk of causing the USB ports to reset, despite putting chokes on every cable I can see. Guess I should order a handful more and start doubling up...

Interesting.? Some months ago I read a post from Oleg saying for digital modes the ALC should be set about 8 using his R1CBU firmware, so that's what I've been using for several months now with no apparent issues.

Here is a more recent comment from him saying 8:

Re: Ideal ALC for digital modes?

I was confused for a while about ALC as well, since the x6100 is my first HF radio, and the ALC seems to be backward (starting at 100%) on Xiegu radios.

With stock software:
* I set the power where I want on the radio (5W usually), hit the "tune" button in wsjtx, and adjust my USB volume and wsjt-x power slider to just barely activate the ALC (drop below 100%), then back it down a little to leave it at or very near 100%. You'll see your power reading on the radio at 5.2W or so.
* More recently, I started setting radio power to full 10W, then I adjust my volumes/power on the computer until it reads 5W on the radio when I'm tuning in wsjtx. That way ALC is never touched and always at 100%.

With R1CBU software on the radio, ALC starts at 0.0, and I always set radio power to 10W, tune computer outputs to always give me the power reading I want on the radio, and never see ALC go above 0.0.

There's a youtube video showing how ALC is compressing and splattering your digital signal.

I work almost exclusively digital modes, so I can't speak much to the voice performance, but mine seems firmly pegged at 1 when transmitting. I would expect it to adjust upwards if I raise the gain on the USB audio or in any of the source applications(this behavior is repeatable in VARAC, WSJT-X, and fldigi, at least), but while the power output seems to increase, my ALC doesn't increase any. Looking at the waterfall, it looks like it's overloading a bit, but I can't seem to get the settings dialed in any better.

Can anyone speak to this? If I transmit dead air, I do get a 0-watt 100 ALC "output", but I can't seem to get that clear of an output when transmitting any of my beeps or bleeps.

Re: Ideal ALC for digital modes?

A general rule of thumb that applies equally to any rig is to preset the power output to some level (for example 4 watts) and then increase the TX audio gain (either via the rig or computer) until the measured RF power out stops increasing. Then for good measure, back off the TX audio gain slightly. This will ensure that you are always getting the maximum power output without overdriving. Using this approach over time you can probably figure out an appropriate ALC level that puts you at this same point and then just use that ALC level as an indicator that you have the gain settings right. Audio gain is set at a number of stages within the computer (soundcard and app) and also a level control in the rig.? It is always best to try to balance those out so they are all mid-range of their respective settings as maxing out the gain at any one stage/place could introduce distortion.?

Some people will argue that there should never be any ALC indication whatsoever for digital mode operation but the truth is that it all depends on how things are implemented by the manufacturer of your radio. With my Yaesu FT-991A for instance, if I set the rig up for zero ALC indication for digital modes I get zero power out. The right answer for that rig is about 50% ALC indication.?

Cheers
