Another Asian tech company, DJI, behaves similarly. When the next, great model is released, they stop *all* support/bug fixes on the previous model(s)…

?

What’s aggravating is that Xiegu refuses to release the source code so that 3rd party developers like Oleg, R1CBU, can easily fix all these issues…

Their history with unfinished products (G90, GSOC, 5105) indicates they abandon updates before the product is bug free. Releasing 1.1.7 is indicative of poor engineering practices by adding wfview server instead of bug fixes.

Yes, occasionally even also on my Yaesu FTDX10, but on that rig it disappears if I restart the rig.

A brand new X6100, in receive mode, exhibits strong whistles at many frequencies, typically registering up to S6. This happens even with a shorted antenna input. The images on the spectrum display sometimes move in opposite direction. Has anyone experienced this. If not, could anyone try to reproduce this situation? Otherwise I may have to conclude that the unit is defective.

Moin,

I'm new to the list. Before I ask many questions, I would like to introduce myself briefly.

I've been a radio amateur since the 80's. At the moment I mainly use my TS-480. Only use Linux, also wrote some books and articles about it. Then there is my Youtube channel "DD0UL QTC" (in German) to mention.

I look forward to sharing information here.

Re: X6100 release of v1.1.7 from Radioddity.com - CAT Control

Moin Jerry,
I assume (!) that there are problems with contradictory data coming from the cat interface and the wfserver. In addition: in wfview I can turn on rigctrl. But wfview recognizes an IC705.
You could install rigctrl in 1.1.7 and test what happens.

1. Add wfserver.
See <<Xiegu X6100 and wfview Software Connection Tutorial_20230821.pdf>> for more details.

Note from Radioddity: We have confirmed with Xiegu that the CAT control feature has been disabled in this firmware version. However, it will be available in the next release. Additionally, Xiegu plans to release their own control rules.
I am not sure precisely what that means. Is the original, 1.1.6 CAT control not working, or is the CAT control not working only in wfview? Is there going to be a new set of CAT control rules for only wfview, or for all of the X6100 CAT controls?

Any ideas?

Who knows. ?The bigger question is why they haven’t solved some of the other bugs that have been reported rather than adding a new feature with new bugs.

- make Bluetooth and WiFi actually work
- fix SWR meter bouncing all over when running on external power
- improve scale on SWR scan to get more precision at lower SWR?
- fix RF gain control to work across range and not just above 60
- fix problems with audio level on voice messages

and plenty more.

Rather than trying to be everything, be a complete, bug free and great radio at a good price, not only 80%-90% there.?

A friend of mine uses one of those power banks and likes it. I have a 9 Ahr BioEnno battery, so that's what I connected to the X6100 after the internal battery died.

I have to admit that I didn't power cycle the internal battery as recommended. I'm doing that now.

Re: First POTA with my X6100

Dan,?

The battery life leaves something to be desired for sure.? Here is what I use and it worked so well I have a few of them.? I hope this helps.? It doesn't add much to the kit.

I also purchased some barrel adapters for the TH-D74a and the FT3DR.? I use the battery pack when hiking to a location and the power box I have when we are just parking and setting up.

I still recommend the battery power cycles.? I did notice that procedure has to be done each firmware update.

Subject: [xiegu-x6100] First POTA with my X6100

?

Hi, guys—

So, I just got back from doing my first POTA with the X6100. I made 30 contacts in an? hour and 45 minutes with my new X6100.

I started out on 40m running 5W, using the internal battery. It was fully charged, but lasted just a little more than an hour. There was no warning that the battery was about to give out. It just shut itself off. Not impressive.

There was a lot of activity on 40m, and I made a couple dozen QSOs before deciding to try 20m. I got decent reports on 40, despite running only 5 W. Unfortunately, 20m wasn’t in such great shape. I struggled to make contacts, even after I connected my BioEnno battery and pumped it up to 10 W.

At first, I connected my doublet antenna directly to the rig via the binding post-BNC adapter. It was hard to tell exactly because the SWR scale is so small, but it looked like the best that the tuner could do is 1.5:1. I later connected the 4:1 balun between the antenna and the radio, but even so, the best match that the tuner could make was about 1.5:1.

When I QSYed to 20m, the tuner gave me an almost 1:1 match. I thought that was kind of strange since when we measured the “raw” SWR, 40m had a lot lower SWR than 20m.

Conclusion
There is a lot to like about this radio. The internal battery is less than impressive, and programming the CW messages is difficult to say the least, but I do like having a bandscope, and there’s plenty of AF and RF gain. It's not an Elecraft KX-3, but it’s really a pretty good radio.
