Re: First POTA with my X6100

Did you complete the 4 charge / discharge cycles on the X6100 to calibrate the battery gauge?

?

When I have done some mobile work with my X6100 the battery has lasted a couple of hours, doing digital modes (FT8/4)

?

But I do tend to be more choosy in the contacts I go after so the TX / RX cycle tends to be lower as I search for contacts I want

?

It is very pleasing to see how far you can get with 5w,

Hi, guys—

So, I just got back from doing my first POTA with the X6100. I made 30 contacts in an? hour and 45 minutes with my new X6100.

I started out on 40m running 5W, using the internal battery. It was fully charged, but lasted just a little more than an hour. There was no warning that the battery was about to give out. It just shut itself off. Not impressive.

There was a lot of activity on 40m, and I made a couple dozen QSOs before deciding to try 20m. I got decent reports on 40, despite running only 5 W. Unfortunately, 20m wasn’t in such great shape. I struggled to make contacts, even after I connected my BioEnno battery and pumped it up to 10 W.

At first, I connected my doublet antenna directly to the rig via the binding post-BNC adapter. It was hard to tell exactly because the SWR scale is so small, but it looked like the best that the tuner could do is 1.5:1. I later connected the 4:1 balun between the antenna and the radio, but even so, the best match that the tuner could make was about 1.5:1.

When I QSYed to 20m, the tuner gave me an almost 1:1 match. I thought that was kind of strange since when we measured the “raw” SWR, 40m had a lot lower SWR than 20m.

Conclusion
There is a lot to like about this radio. The internal battery is less than impressive, and programming the CW messages is difficult to say the least, but I do like having a bandscope, and there’s plenty of AF and RF gain. It's not an Elecraft KX-3, but it’s really a pretty good radio.

Jens,

Quoting Oleg:

"The peak in the center is not always DC skew.?Sometimes it's really low frequency noise.?There is a DC filter inside the software, but it is fixed.?Therefore, this peak is different on different bands.?Perhaps in my firmware I implement it so that it can be individually suppressed on different bands."

Oleg,

Seems nice, and I'm glad some developer has made efforts towards visibility. I will surely try your firmware when my radio is delivered sometime next week. Where can I download your version? Maybe I can help with development if you like. I'm no coder, but some Linux stuff is no stranger to me.

- There should be different colours with gradients.
Read above

- The scale must be around 50 dBm dynamic range for good efficiency to show weak signals.
In my firmware waterfall/spectrum high level from -79dBm to -33dBm, and a low level from -127dBm to -85dBm. Thus, the dynamic range may be from 92dB to 6dB.

Oleg and others,

I just replied to a waterfall question on Facebook.

- The scale must be around 50 dBm dynamic range for good efficiency to show weak signals.
- A variable speed can bring out more detail and eventually show CW dots and dashes or to determine which mode is received.

See the screenshots:

- SDRconsole with a too high set waterfall base, just like in the X6100 as default, and the low in the screenshot should be how it should be.
- NDB test shows the beacons' visibility when set right. Never mind the 3D function here, as it is not present in the X6100.
- Theo Log met amp5 shows many different transmitting modes and some PLC interference on the right plus some digital PSU interference on 6550 kHz. The antenna used was a home brew 36 meter LOG which has a very low gain and low noise floor for best SNR.

Hope some Firmware developers or Xiegu can benefit from this info. These colour schemes and specific settings are my own. I also made some others for specific use, but this is my default.

If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Re: StreamDeck and X6100

Good afternoon, Gary.

Could you send me one of the ELGATO files with which you command the CAT of the Xiegu x6100, it's been a couple of days and I can't figure it out.

Thank you so much.

Here are some pixs of how I have some keys programmed for functions.

Time Synch

Oleg,

I know this isn't your problem, but you're pretty smart guy so here is my question.

I noticed that using the wlan dhcp, doesn't work.? It always populates 192.168.3.21, gateway 192.168.3.1 and dns servers 8.8.8.8 , 8.2.2.2.? It doesn't matter what I do with either my router/dhcp server and or the WAP.? I've tried to manually encode the correct IP, but it remains the same.? Hence: the ntp portion of the software doesn't update correctly.? I'm using a business class router, so there shouldn't be any issues.? So why is it stuck on the x.x.3.x subnet?

Hi Oleg ....
?
I have a question : I have on the screen of the X6100 always a Ghost-Spike exactly under
the curser line , also to see in the waterfall.
This spike is always present also without connected antenna and the Ghost-Spike is always
exactly moving with the curser when frequency will tuned .
You have an idea what this is , what could be the reason and how could this ghost-spike
can removed ... ??? See please the attached pictures .

There is no "channels mode" in my solution. And there is no "band mode" as such. The transceiver is always in VFO mode. It's just that when you switch bands, you get to the saved frequency. Just like when saved a frequency (memory), you then just restore it in the same way.

Thank you!? I never tried long press on the frequency up/down... It works perfectly!
Keep up the great work!

Oleg,
Thank you so much for the software - use it almost exclusively. Hoping you'll continue development.

Re: Spurs, waterfall and board revisions

Oleg,

Yes, I'm talking theoretically because I'm still waiting for my radio to be delivered. I saw several videos in YouTube with the original firmware and your firmware version. None of them showed a, for me, good waterfall action. I will wait until the delivery and evaluate things happening as they are.

Very often I see in other people's reviews that operators do not set min/max at all and then it looks terrible. In my videos, you will not find this, I build levels quite often (because it is done so conveniently ;)

Re: Spurs, waterfall and board revisions

Oleg,

To have a good working waterfall, you have to keep the min/max setting independent of the FFT to get good visibility. I do this every day with SDRconsole. Simon Brown knows very well to keep these separated. This, besides a few other things, SDRconsole has the best visualization of all SDR software programs. This is also used in radio astrology to detect weak signals.

It seems that many SDR developers do not see the benefits of a good working waterfall. It is not a show gimmick, but a tool! One of the worst cases I encountered very recently is shown in the development of SDRconnect (SDRplay). Even the big Japan boxes are mediocre on this topic.

I included 2 screenshots. One with a good waterfall dynamic range (50 dBm) and one with a bad dynamic range (too big). You can see this in the waterfall scale on the right of the screen. Notice that the FFT min/max has NOT been changed by me.
