Re: New radio features

I recall that a ham had inquired Xiegu about CTCSS support.? I understand Xiegu said it was doable, but stopped short of saying whether they would or wouldn't.

Headset

Has anyone found a headset with boom that works for this radio? I was at the Orlando hand fest and asked around and no one seen to carry anything that would go with the 6100. Looking for something very lightweight for POTA.

Re: FT8CN on the BIG screen

Yes, I saw that FT4 was in the FW and TX was in development. Looking forward to it. The FT8CN app doesn't do FT4 and I don't think there are plans for it.

Did I read somewhere that you are developing a TXRX of your own?

Now I already have FT8/FT4 reception in my firmware. I also already made the broadcast and even made a QSO. Will be available in the next version.

The video I attached to the above message doesn't seem to play so I attached a pic.

FT8CN on the BIG screen

Not sure if anyone here has tried this so I apologize in advance if I'm reinventing the wheel.

I've been very successful in using my X6100 with the FT8CN android app and an old Samsung Note 8. However, in addition to the cellphone screen being very small the app uses color contrasts (ie red over gray) that are difficult to read unless you're right on top of the phone.

So I found that I could cast the cell phone screen to my main computer monitor using the Smart View feature on the phone in conjunction with the Win10 system feature? "project to this PC" in the Settings "System" menu. The phone and PC must be on the same WIFI network and the "project to this PC" feature located in the "System" settings should be "launched" first. Then when the Smart View app is launched on the phone, the PC will show up as a device to "cast" to.

In addition I paired up a bluetooth mouse to the phone in order to control the FT8CN app from the monitor without having to do it directly from the phone.

It can be a little glitchy at times and I found that in order to direct the phone's audio output to the radio I had to "pause" the Smart View, begin a TX cycle, an then reconnect "unpause" the Snart View feature. It looks like you have to establish the audio channel to the radio first otherwise Smart View will send the audio to the monitor.

The app can be completely controlled from the monitor with the BT mouse. No more scwinting over the tiny cell phone screen an the color contrasts and resolution are great.

Again I apologize if this topic has been covered before. I attached a pic an video for your viewing pleasure.

The VG4 is a really good antenna, I have mine mounted on a steel mast at about 12 feet, here's a screenshot of my log with the 6100/VG4 setup

Re: New radio features

Phil,

I've been eyeballing that VG4 antenna but haven't heard much about it. ?How do you have yours mounted? ?Have you used other antennas like dipoles or EFHW types? ?(I'm currently using an EFHW that's sort of not-quite-permanently hung in a tree in the back yard. ?I do have a 20+ foot pole -- I could make it 30'-- ?in the yard I could mount a VG4 to.)

Re: New radio features

They cant even make the squelch work on FM, they sure as heck cant add tone squelch!

Re: New radio features

I would also like to see six meter repeater tones, but I'm not holding my breath. I believe I saw that it was doable on the 6100 with a software patch. If Xiegu doesn't at least include it on the 6200, they are being deaf to their users.?

I have had my 6100 for about 6 months now and after a bit of a learning curve, I love it!? I bought the VG4 antenna and it is perfect for this rig, made many contacts, even through pileups.? i go back and forth using the Xeigu firmware and the R1CBU v.19, haven't decided which I like best.? It would be nice to be able to access the local 10 and 6 meter repeaters but there is no provision for pl tones (CTCSS).? Is this planned in a future release?? Is it a hardware or software issue?? I suspect it's both, hardware to generate the tones and software to select the proper tone for the repeater you are trying to access.

Re: Navigating through the general settings menu

There are only three menus I believe. So no one has it written down what the function keys do for each menu.

i'm noob to the 6100, and have had no trouble getting it all set up with latest version of the xiegu FW.
yes the decoder isnt perfect, but most arent, so its just best to rely on the decoder between our ears IMHO.

' just started 4th recharge cycle after doing FW upgrade ; after 3rd one i noticed a much longer operating battery life.? this group has been very helpful and glad i joined before the radio arrived.? its supposed to bit warmer in few days, and i'm getting excited to play activator.

Okay, Oleg. Please take the time to get it correct. We can wait.

Now it’s difficult to say when it will be ready. Hardware development is progressing very quickly, and the firmware is 90% ready. Let's see how things go further

Re: battery life vs operating mode

I put the finishing touches (trimming/tuning) on a 20m/40m linked dipole today and made some contacts while I was outside. ?I chatted with a ham from France for a bit and chased a few POTA activators and one SOTA activator. ?Things were going well and then I couldn't seem to make any more contacts.

Turns out I wasn't keeping track of my on-board battery voltage and it had dropped down to the point where it won't transmit; I was wasting my breath. ?:-) ? I learned I need to keep an eye on the battery condition. ?Actually, it probably won't be an issue as I usually power up with a 12V 9Ah Bioenno LiFePO (and sometimes have a 38W folding solar panel wired in as well).

Keep an eye on your voltage... those words you're speaking into the mic might not be going anywhere!
