Re: reproducing the issue with the CW decoder #r1cbu

When I have played with the decoder it genrally lags a few seconds to begin with as it has to work out the length of dit’s and dah’s to approximate the speed of the cw its decoding

?

If you only present it with repeating dahs it could be assuming its a stream of dit’s

I'd like to offer a data point on the hit-and-miss decoder issues people may see.

I generally find the decoder to be fine. I use it mostly while trying to practice/learn with the built-in iambic keyer. But then...I turned the keyer volume the whole way up, and the decoder went all wrong. I could hold the dah paddle, and the decoder would spew only nonsense "E"s across the screen. Maybe the people who have trouble are getting too loud of a signal into the decoder? I found I can cause and alleviate the problem in the trainer and the key volume, but what's the best way to control the volume of an incoming signal to the decoder? I can turn the main volume to 0, and the keyer is still decoding just fine. Could having too high gain cause too much incoming signal for the decoder?
