Hello Everyone!
The transition to Groups.IO has been completed! If you wish to post to the XEphem mailing list the new address is [email protected]. I will be closing out the Yahoo Group address shortly. Have fun! -- John Perry perry@... Owner/Moderator of XEphem mailing list |
We may be here for a while

Hello Everyone!
I just checked on the status of the move to groups.io. It turns out that the person (Mark) who is in charge of the transfers is on vacation until May 2 or 3. You are welcome to add yourself manually at the new site if you wish. But be aware that we are at the bottom of a very long list of transfer. Again the link to the new list is: /g/xephem When we get moved all of the archived messages will re-appear. The new site is currently empty. -- John Perry |

Go for the move, John !!I guess I should mention at this point that if anyone wants to look at the groups.io XEphem main page can take an look at the following URL and provide any feedback that you wish. /g/xephem The simple fact of frequent loss of my "yahoo profile", Id and passwd ... is enough to justify it. For the fun ... I confess my use of Skype from the beginning when it simply worked ... you know it's now a M$ product : ,... This morning the interface opened and ask me "What is your birthdate and Birth place" in a form, (I was not logged out) shit !! I answered '2018 Jan 1st and 'North Corea' ;-)? gooood ... end of story. Thanks for XEphem list management as XEphem is always efficient and INDI grows better and better. Re: OT: Yahoogroups as a provider?
I will accept the decision of the majority but my vote is to move. Other groups I am in have also recently moved to groups.io and I like it there much better than here. I have only been a member in these moves, so can not speak to difficulties encountered by the admins, but from what I¡¯ve seen the migration goes pretty smoothly.
BYW John, I may never have publicly shared my sincere thanks for your capable shepherding of this group over the years. You¡¯ve always been fair and jumped in quickly when bumps were encountered. Most appreciated. Hoping to see you all over at groups.io, Elwood |

Well my understanding is that Yahoo owns all posted content and can use

it as they please. What I see on groups.io is that I can migrate the entire list to the new location including all members and archived messages with a single click. But that being said... groups.io is claiming they are having issues with the migration mechanism. I'm not moving anything until we have a consensus. But if I start the move it may take days to weeks for it to finish. On 4/26/2018 7:19 PM, Mike Chapman chapmanm007@... [xephem] wrote:

Re: OT: Yahoogroups as a provider?
Hi, Not my group.? I understand one issue is to do with ownership of posted content.? It's likely that only people that have moved to the new group can take their content, otherwise permission needs to be obtained.? It's also possible that some people have posted and moved on, no longer members of the group, or maybe they've died and permission is not practically possible.? It's worth looking into. on general principles (and as an end-user) I strongly second the change. (The group is not the place to start a rant against the major internet players who already make Big Brother look like an angel as far as privacy is concerned, so I refrain :) ... (this is the space for the rant I started anyway but finally deleted) ... Of course as the maintainer, you'll have to weigh pros and cons, ensure the sustainability of the destination provider and take into account the general feeling among the members... For me, it's a loud and clear 'yes' to the change. -- Fran?ois Meyer On Thu, 26 Apr 2018, 'John Perry' lists@... [xephem] wrote:

Re: OT: Yahoogroups as a provider?
Hi, One other group I use has moved to ''.? I'd have to say that Yahoo seems to be almost un-useable and is now almost impossible to search through.? There is a significant problem around moving content from Yahoo to Groups.IO. Cheers, Mike Chapman On Fri, Apr 27, 2018 at 7:15 AM, Eric De La Cruz Lugo eric_delacruz@... [xephem] <xephem@...> wrote:
