Yes, that's how to do it but the change at 04h is the checksum updating.
It looks like data for the default squelch setting it's at 0Ch.
Changing the home mode value at 0Fh by one either way should inc/dec the 03h value by the same amt and direction.

Definately gets us more resolution, but ~5k isnt a lot of range.
Have you pictured how a real time UI is going to work yet?
