I wasn't suggesting respinning the board, just that logistically things are much simpler for hobbyist?projects in 2020 than they were back in 2004. I never would have tackled the project alone, I built a point to point version for myself and was basically done.? Lee wanted a few and so he layed out a PCB.... it took off from there.

I would like to see a compact control head to go with the xcat. Came up with a few preliminary designs some time ago but never progressed beyond that. I wonder if there are more modern PICs that could be drop in replacements in the xcat.?
