Antenna Help 3
Lou, K2ANC has an antenna that is misbehaving. At the young age of 89, Lou is not certified for roof climbing. Good chance it is a simple fix, but requires going up on his 1 1/2 story roof. I am willing to go up, but would like one or two guys to help. Lou has a ladder and plenty of tools if needed. Probably not required to go up on the roof, but you can if comfortable. Let me know if you can help, and we can set up a time with Lou. Brian

January ARRL VHF Entry for XARC ?
Hello All, Earlier in the year Brian published a history of the Rochester Cup and the outstanding performance of XARC in winning the ARRL club gavel in the medium club category in the 90s. Times have changed, but the fun of local contesting is alive and well in our area. Recent ARRL rules changes have made it easier for smaller clubs (called local clubs) to participate with rovers (mobile stations). It could be a fun activity to get a few club members at home and a few to go out as rovers to a couple of grid squares and see what your equipment can do. In the local club category, you are limited to 10 entries and the fixed stations must be within a circle with a 35 mile radius. That seems like the right entry class for XARC, though you can decide to center the circle anywhere you choose. There is a little bit of up front work to do with the ARRL, but I would be happy to do this if there is interest. I can also present at a club meeting later in the year to explain tips and tricks for increasing your score and possibly coming away with a winning club entry. Just an idea to consider that is available to all classes of operators. 73, Jarred Below - 35-mile radius circle centered around Henrietta. Does this cover a majority of club members?

Vintage Test Equipment
All, Lou, K2ANC has donated some equipment to the club. I stopped by his place yesterday and picked it up. In addition, he also donated a more modern accessory, a Timewave Navigator. The Timewave Navigator, I might consider keeping for the club, but will discuss with members. It could be usable for Field Day if we wanted to run digital modes on a not so modern rig. It currently sells for $375. The vintage test equipment I thought I might take to the hamfest, but will probably research some more before doing that. But if someone in the club really wants these items, maybe we can come up with a fair price. Please don't ask if you are planning on flipping them for a higher price. The two units are: HP 200AB Audio Generator HP 410B VTVM Both seem to power up, but are untested at the moment. Units in similar condition can be found on eBay. The Audio Generators are selling for a bit under $100. The VTVM is another story. One is listed for $795, others for several hundred. One of the best VTVMs of it's day, so I guess it is in demand. But I want to research some more. If anyone in the club would like to purchase one of these, email me directly, and we can discuss. If not, we might try the VTVM on eBay to maximize our return. Brian

Ameritron AL-811H
Offering up for sale here first before bringing it to the Hamfest this weekend and putting it on QRZ Swapmeet. Ameritron AL-811H. Original , not modified. Currently 600W output. Suspect one tube bad. Along with 4 NIB Taylor 811A tubes purchased from RF Parts when these tubes were still available. Didn't install the set yet to bring up to full 800W PEP. Can bring to ROC City Hamfest and you can check it out there. I can bring a 1.5kW dummy load but we will need to find a generator to power on. Asking $925. Used sparingly. UPDATED: [xarc] XARC Summer Lunch/Picnic 3
Latest forecast for Tuesday is steady rain overnight and into Tuesday AM, with scattered showers after. Since the wx looks not great for Tuesday, let's go for Wednesday instead. Hopefully this won't mess up too many plans, but sitting out in the rain would be no fun. Wednesdays forecast looks better. Everything else stays the same, we'll just meet Wednesday at 12:30. - Brian On 8/2/2023 6:31 PM, Brian Donovan - K2AS wrote: > Since our last event was Field Day, let's have an informal XARC summer > picnic. XARC Summer Lunch/Picnic 5
Since our last event was Field Day, let's have an informal XARC summer picnic. Nothing will be provided, so bring your own lunch, drinks, chairs, etc. Let's plan on Tuesday August 15th, 12:30 PM at Ellison Park at the North Landing Road Horse Shoe Parking lot. Rain date is Wednesday Aug. 16th. We will pick a nice shady area. I don't know if there are any picnic tables there or not, and shelters are not cheap, so plan accordingly. Maybe we can scrounge up a few folding tables (bring'em if you got em) This will be very informal. Feel free to bring any show-and-tell items and share any interesting ham radio activities this past couple of months. We'll play it by ear, so we can try 146.55 MHz as talk-in frequency, if we are not close to parking lot and easily seen. If wx is an issue, rain date will be confirmed on this email list as early as possible. Also announced on repeater frequency and on our website ASAP. If weather is bad on both 15th and 16th, probably just cancel. Here is a map. <iframe src="https://www.google.com/maps/embed?pb=!1m14!1m12!1m3!1d877.3782003901407!2d-77.52861300705781!3d43.15288231654243!2m3!1f0!2f0!3f0!3m2!1i1024!2i768!4f13.1!5e1!3m2!1sen!2sus!4v1691015000713!5m2!1sen!2sus" width="600" height="450" style="border:0;" allowfullscreen="" loading="lazy" referrerpolicy="no-referrer-when-downgrade"></iframe> Hope to see you there. 73, Brian K2AS

Looking for Potentiometer 4
Long shot, but - If anyone has in their junkbox, a 3K ohm linear taper, chassis mount (standard 3/8 bushing and 1/4 shaft), but shaft needs to be at least 1.5 inches long , I will take it off your hands. This Drake 2-C I'm refurbing has no sound until I hit about 2/3 scale, and then it is way too loud. Have to use the RF gain for volume. I took the pot apart, and the first 2/3 of the carbon trace is completely GONE. These seem to be hard to come by these days, as I have been searching parts suppliers and surplus sites for a couple hours. Seems like an unusual value for a pot, but I guess Drake used them more than once. I probably will get as close as I can with a substitute if no luck, but thought I would ask first. Brian
