Re: Website

Hey Brian and others

I had a legacy website that I built many years ago with Microsoft Front Page last issue 2003. I used it up until Windows 11 when it stopped working.? It is basically a similar to?word? html editor?that knows about links and basic web architectural? stuff. My files?are then uploaded with ftp (filezilla) since the interactive features are?no longer supported by the server.? I have been looking for a similar?replacement that is just an editor?but no luck so far

Any suggestions?

Well, the best laid plans . . .

So after I sent out the note, I wanted to make a video showing how to
create a post.? To do so, I had to register as a new user, as my normal
login is as a administrator and it wouldn't look the same.? I
immediately ran into problems (this used to work).? When I tried to
register, I got an error message (something about javascript and
cookies). After a couple of things, I disabled a plugin on the website
that blocks spam.? The error went away.? Now I was able to register.?
When complete, it said click on the email it sent me to activate.? Never
got the email.

I have trouble with this before on WordPress/shared hosting.?? So I
tried several fixes with either no luck or other issues.? It seems like
something as basic as registering and getting an email sent should work.

In the meantime, I checked to see if one of my test registrations was
showing up, despite no email.? That is when I found that since I had
disabled the spam protection plugin, we had received dozens of new spam
registrations, in just less than one hour.? So I re-enabled it.

That means, if you try to register, you may see an error.? If you were
successful registering, you may not get an email.? That is OK, I can
activate your account.

Important:? If you can register, you must put in your real name. We
can't allow anonymous names or nicknames.? Your username, I don't care
(prefer callsign of name/initial etc).? I need to be able to recognize
who you are.? If I can't tell, I assume it is spam.

I will continue to work on this, and hopefully get to a solution.? One
thing I know, I would like to drop GoDaddy later this year when we need
to renew, for various reasons.? GoDaddy wants $100 extra to get a
security certificate for a HTTPS://. With Bluehost it is free.? Not
having a HTTPS is problematic.? Not because we need secure transactions,
but because lots of stuff no longer works with only a HTTP domain.

If you have registered, and know your login, I have updated most users
to author, so you can try to create a post if you'd like.
