Re: First x25 call attempt

i called you and got connection reset by peer! something about your
setup seems to be set to deny inbound connections to port 1998.

maybe you need to define an access-list on the router?

it does seem that you can statically configure a set of Definity

haven't gotten that to work properly yet either but i'm pretty close.

That being said, there seems to be a lot of people interested in the

However, I just re-read the C*NET (ckts.info) page again and I feel like
X.25 falls under the "pretty much anything telephony or VoIP related."

So I'm just curious if I'm misinterpreting or if the X.25 discussion is
something special.

Similarly, would discussions of ISDN telephony equipment be on or off topic?

I don't mind either way. I'm just trying to calibrate myself.

A system to look at would be nice!

I don't have the cool 1980s experience. I started my career as a systems admin for a small dial-up ISP in my birth town of Evanston, WY. Most of my career has been around the systems engineering part of things. I'm currently on a hiatus as I am disabled. I'm active in the retrocomputing scene - particularly with Silicon Graphics machines. But I needed a new "cheap" retro hobby and someone said "telephony", so I setup an asterisk server and I've been hooked. I'm not new to telephony and networking per se. It's just never been a focus career-wise.

Right this second, I'm working on getting an SGI Indy going with dial-up via C*Net :D

So it's now getting connected, as you say nothing on the other end.

I am looking at my side to see what I can do to hook one of my old DECs which are meant to support X.25 VT services, to this. When I get back to the US, I can look to update this router to Enterprise, which opens up the translate command; with that I might be able to avoid having the Dec speak X.25, and it should be possible to simply "call" into the Cisco and that translates onto the DEC over IP. ?That seems less fun,..

Re: Joining the network

Ok that looks great! I just turned on the router and PAD, calls to
752.410.0x should connect now.

I have nothing plugged into the PAD at the moment so you won't get
much interesting out of it, sorry <g>

Hi!

I was hoping to have the 7204VXR ready by now, but I need to reset the enable password, and I still haven't found any of my USB-to-RS232 interfaces, or DB-25 to Cisco 8P8C adapters that I could use with a dumb terminal. Also locked out of my terminal servers. (I haven't used my Cisco lab for a few years.)

Re: hello nerd(s?)

Hey, Astrid!

I'm sure more nerds will accrete over time.

This is the last week of classes for me, and I have a lot of stuff to finish-up, so the earliest I can dig my Cisco router out and get it configured is probably this Saturday, 6/12. Sorry for the delay. Thanks for documenting your config, btw.

let me know when you want to try linking up :D

i'm in pacific time and evenings are best for me. i generally have my equipment powered down because of noise but all the configs are saved so it comes up quickly enough.
