FLrig and Yaesu FT1000mp

Morris WA4MIT

New to FLdigi/FLrig and was wanting to try out software but am having trouble with FLrig connecting and reading my FT1000mp. I finally did manage to connect to rig but the frequency readout is totally wrong
It is reading 20M phone band as below 1Mhz .173XX and nothing I have been able to do changes this. I can key rig in CW mode it produces a series of keyups like dashes. But the main problems seems?
to be the frequency right now. I am including some screen shots. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks 73 Morris WA4MIT

Morris,

I don’t know the proper settings for the FT1000MP, but you say you have rig control. How do you know that if you can’t control the frequency? Flrig should read/set the frequency as well as the the rig mode if it is really connected.

Make sure the com port is correct and the baud rate matches the rig setting.

Try setting the rig mode to USB- data if it has that mode or else just USB. You will be able to set that from flrig if you ?are indeed connected.

Hi Cliff the setting are correct. When flrig does connect this is what is shown when rig VFO A (main) tuned to 21.285 15M phone band. VFO B is tuned to 10.136mhz Been trying several times today this is first time it would connect the PTT works Split & tuner button works. Switching between VFOA & B works.?

Hmmm… VERY strange.?

I take it you made these changes from flrig and they were reflected on the rig, correct?

Have you tried to change the freq from flrig? Do you have polling set on in flrig?

This morning it will not connect and in the port select window it only shows ports 1 thru 3 not 4 and 5. I did get it connected by opening flrig then turn radio on.? I am seeing poling (cat) light flashing on the radio. I can change the filters also.? Flrig will not change radio freq from this screen. If I change radio freq flrig changes but not correct freq showing.?It seems to me that the command to read this radios freq is wrong within flrig?.?

You need to have the rig on before running flrig. Flrig looks for the rig on startup so it it’s not there it can’t connect to it and normally will give an error message. It doesn’t make sense to me that you say you connected by turning on the rig after starting flrig. Flrig doesn’t keep trying to connect after failing on startup. You have to “update” then select then Init to try to connect. You should be able to click on the “Update” button in the config to see the available ports. If the port isn’t there then somehow Windows isn’t recognizing the serial port.?

I doubt there is a bad command for reading the frequency for your rig as I would expect we would have heard about it a long time ago, Your rig I’m sure is used by a number of folks.

Please answer my questions from my last email.

Morris,

I have a 1000MP and use Hamlib, works great.? Fldigi follows the freq on the rig, can change freq on rig from from Fldigi and QSY button works.

Hi John
I looked into using hamlib but it does not seem to have a graphical interface and I do not know anything about setting it up.?
I am going to be out of pocket over weekend maybe next week we can get together and you tell me how to set things up?
Did you ever try flrig? could you get it to work? with your MP
An update I am able to fully connect to a flex 5000a it connected straight away and fldigi connected also even copied a little CW with fldigi.?

Thanks 73 Morris WA4MIT

Morris,

I think John was referring that using hamlib as rigcontrol within fldigi works in place of flrig. You won’t get all the nice GUI of flrig though.

I just loaded flrig today and it is not happy displaying the correct frequency from my FT1000MP. Other controls work fine, but the frequency is totally wrong. I did not see a solution other they "hey use himlib instead"! I am not a newbie to rig control. M1MM+ works with the rig A++ for years. DXLab Commander A++ for years. WSJT through Commander A++. I am sure it is something simple in the code where the bytes get assembled in reverse or something. Nothing that I can adjust in the config settings. Maybe the author reads these?? Would be happy to help and debug.

Nobody ever got an answer here did they? I had to reinstall mine (FLRig 1.4.7.46) from scratch and almost didn't get it working, I had to change the write time above the Init button to get it to connect, and when it did on FT1000MP it reads some kind of crazy number versus what is on the actual dial of the radio. I changed to FT1000MP-A and it reads correctly. I attempted to update to FLRig 2.0.05 and it quit working all together, no matter what I've tried. So I guess I'm just going to stick with 1.4.7.46 or Hamlib.?

What band rate are you using to connect???? What is the max for the 1000mp.?? Maybe try lowering to 4800 or 9600, and see if it helps

I'm using the same settings that always work with WSJT. 4800 baud, 8N2. I had to change the write delay on the menu to the right in transceiver setup dialog to get it to work with 1.4.7.46, but 2.0.05 won't work at all with the same settings.
