Help Get Andy to Alaska
Hi Willys Gurus
I got the chance to meet Andy this weekend at AutoZone in Tigard OR.? He is traveling from Argentina to Alaska in his Willys Wagon.? His Willys is having some serious engine problems. We tested and swapped a few things, and then did a compression check.? All the cylinders are between 30 and 50 PSI.? Andy is currently staying at my place while he figures out the next phase of his adventure.? I am not very mechanical, so Andy?is getting some mechanical suggestions off of Facebook Groups.? I thought I would share his story here too.? Anyone around Portland with some Willys mechanical?knowledge that is willing to help? Thanks |
Hi. 30-50# and the cylinders wouldn't fire. I've been a mechanic for half? a centry and I've had compression gauges go bad. I would try another? gauge. Good luck and hope you make it. P.S. could be a bad head gasket? or worn valves, rings. What's the oil pressure?

At that compression it wouldn't even fire a cylinder. Bad gauge.

I would check gauge accuracy and make sure you are taking compressions at engine operating temperature, with a good starter and battery giving you at least 200-400 RPM and the throttle plate is held wide open and choke plate must be open. If still too low then pergorm a compression leak down test to pin point the leaks.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI agree. Once you confirm that the compression is low, the next logical step is a leakdown test. ?Below is a YouTube video that explains the test. |
