The temperature gauge on our '65 wagon was always reading high for a relatively normal engine temperature.? I changed the sensor for a new one but the gauge read the same.??
I read somewhere that a Mustang sensor gives lower gauge readings but unfortunately the Mustang sensor is smaller and so would need an adapter.? Yet another COVID project dawned on me... what about fitting a Mustang sensor into the larger Willys "barrel"?? I have no idea how these sensors work - they seem to be very simple, consisting of a spring inside the brass housing.??
The pictures show the Mustang unit and opened Willys counterpart. Then internal threading of the Willys part; assembly and finally the use of a copper washer to seal the two components together.

The gauge now reads slightly lower.
