Martin hello:
I got a bolt that was about 2 to 3 inches longer
than the original bolt. Next, I placed a nut on
the bolt at about one inch from the threaded end.
I then brazed or welded, I can't remember exactly,
this nut onto the longer bolt.
Although the need to remove the fuel pump is quite
rare... it is so easy to get the fuel pump off in any situation,
once the bolts are an extended length.
I had a friend from Dubbo (Aust) visiting NY
We drove a jeep for about 40 miles when suddenly, the
jeep was coughing and sputtering to a dead stop.
I had only a scant few tools with me but luckily I had used
the longer bolts and therefore was easily able to remove
the pump and discover the problem.
(one of the round flapper discs had worn away to the point
there was no fuel pressure)
