The filter doesn't need "primed", but it wouldn't hurt to fill it.
I would be more concerned about getting oil pressure on the engine before
"lighting the fires". I do this by running packing the oil pump with
Vaseline and running the started without any spark plugs in stalled. The oil
pressure will usually come up quite quickly.
Note be sure not to run the starter longer than about 20 seconds without
letting it cool for a couple minutes.

Is it necessary to put oil into a remote oil filter like the one on my
53 pickup F134 engine? I've just had the engine rebuilt and thought it
might need to be "primed".
