Month End Breakfast and Field Day 2020 Update
Hi,
The poll results were pretty low. Only 6 responses. We will still be hosting our virtual Saturday morning month-end breakfast. The information is in Groups.IO in the calendar, and a reminder will automatically go out on Thursday with the link details.? The bottom line is we are still under Covid-19 precautions. ARRL has acknowledged this and has made several rules adjustments to allow for clubs and individuals to participate in this year's event. To that end please see below... Remote Operation Opportunity If you would like to operate an HF station on Field Day but either do not have your own HF station and/or high enough privileges, please contact me directly ASAP. I will be providing time slots for folks that would like to do so. You will be using a program called from RemoteHams.com.? If you already have access privileges you may operate under your own call sign. Just follow the directions per below to set up your logging. If you do not have high enough privileges then you will be operating under my call sign, N6DZK, and I will be the control operator for your session. I have not figured out how to do the logging for that yet. But will come up with something by next Saturday. I am thinking we will just use the chat in Groups.io to keep track, or something along those lines. Contact me directly with any questions. Organization Meeting There will be a Zoom meeting this Tuesday at 6:30 PM to discuss FD operations for this year. If you wish to participate with the club, please attend and proceed to the notes below. The link for the Tuesday FD organization meeting is: Software Setup (Looks more daunting than it is, should take 10-15 minutes or so.) For Saturday operations, in Groups.IO there is a Chats section. A new chat has been set up called "Field Day 2020". When you are operating, please check into the chat so we know who is on line.?

Hi all,
? ? Due to a senior moment, I forgot about the 6:30 zoom meeting.? I had a?
question I wanted to ask, too ... and that is, why has the club decided to go
with the N3FJP software (for $9) when the N1MM package is considered
an "industry standard" for contesting and it's free?? Anyway, looking forward
hearing about how the zoom meeting went this evening.

Hi Ray.
See you tomorrow on the Zoom meeting. I'd like to touch bases with you there and check about using your rig through Remote Hams. Thanks. Benson |

Hi,
The short answer on N3JFP vs N1MM is nobody suggested anything else.?
Since I was the one sort of driving the bus this year, N3JFP is what we have used in the past. I also find N3JFP easier for someone that has never used logging software before, combined with the networking features that will allow us to see club scores through
the day. Also,?if anyone needed support or questions answered, N3JFP is what I know.
But also since it is "work from home" you are free to use whichever logging software you wish. Since we are all 1D/1E we will be submitting our own logs. If you chose to use another logging application, your data will simply not show up in the shared club log
pages per my previous email. But you can still submit as part of the club.?
BTW, and this is to everyone, as part of the meeting tonight we discussed that it is important that anyone submitting logs with club affiliation use: "Garlic Valley Amateur Radio Club"
They all have to be the same. If someone uses GVARC, Garlic Valley Radio Club, etc, they will not be combined and will show as separate scores.
Cheers,
Ray

Hi Ray,
? ? Thanks for your quick reply.? I understand your reasoning on the N3FJP software.
I was curious about that because I used his SW years ago and found it to be quite
good.? But then N1MM came along ... and I switched over.? Absolutely nothing wrong
with the N3FJP program.? It is very likely the better solution for beginners at logging
SW.? I'll probably use N1MM because I'm so familiar with it and thank you for letting
us know how to properly specify the club name so that it gets credited.? See you on
the air for FD!
