Hi all!
I know. I cannot believe the end of June is here. But yup. Saturday is Field Day 2021. In person!!
Current station count is 5 (I think). 20meter phone and digital, 40 meter phone and digital, 15 meter phone. And there may be one more CW station or someone may bounce around on CW. Remember that we can only have one of each mode at a time on each band. So be sure to communicate with all stations before you change bands or modes.?
Stations:
- Station hosts (already identified) are responsible for everything needed for the operation of their station. Radio, power, shade, antenna(s). etc. Every station is "self contained".?
- Water
- Snacks
Safety:
- Covid Protocols
- Bring a mask.??
- Sanitizer and some alcohol wipes are also a good idea.?
- This will be an outdoor event. Station hosts will be spread out.
- If you are with a station host please observe the station host's wishes. If they ask you mask up, please do so.
- Station hosts have final say on Microphone/Headset sharing. Please use alcohol wipes, etc. between sessions if you chose to do so.
- Weather
- The weather is scheduled to bump about 10 degrees from the 80's to the 90's. So do not let these really nice day fool you. It is gonna heat up on Saturday.
- Configure your station thinking how it will be facing through the day and the Sun path.?
- Secure popups by staking, tie-downs, or weights. We all know how windy it can get there.?
- Sunscreen
- Water
- Appropriate clothing and head coverings.?
- Take a break if needed. Hang out in the AC of your vehicle, etc.?
- HYDRATE!
- Did I mention HYDRATE!?
- Station Configuration
- Watch power cords. Check before arrival for frayed wires, etc. I think most of us are on solar and battery.?
- Mark tripping hazards of cables, or guy lines. Grab some of that cheap flagging tape from Home Depot if you will be erecting masts that require guy lines.?
Software:
- Logging software again will be N3FJP's excellent Field Day logger. The current version is 6.6 with enhancements for logging digital contacts. Station hosts planning to operate digital modes should download now and practice configuration for Saturday.?
- If you already have a license from last year the update is free. Otherwise it is like $9. Way worth it.?
- We will again be uploading our scores using N3FJP's Club Score application to an event page. The URL is:
- Everyone can play! You do not have to be with us on Saturday at the field. If you are participating from home, you can still set up the software as show below and see your scores with everyone else.?
- In the N3FJP Field Day software, go to Settings, Web Upload Contest Status, and select N3FJP HTML Formatted, and fill in the screen as shown.?

- For the yellow highlighted part, change N6DZK to your own call sign, but be sure to leave the "-2021" in place.?
- The FTP server is: ftp://ftp.solarbugs.com/
- Hosting site username: gvarc-contest@...
- The hosting password is: G0lfv@rCharlie?(G0lf victor @lpha romeo Charlie) The 0 in golf is a zero.
- When you fill all that in correctly, hit the "Upload Now" button, and the bottom should show you the "226-File successfully transferred" message. If you do get an error, double check the server name, account name, and password. The account has been tested and does work.?
- Once you have successfully uploaded once, notify me at rdzek@...?by email with your name and call sign so I can add you to the club score roster.?
You should also test connecting your laptop to your radio if you have not done so already and making sure the N3JFP software works with your radio.?
WIFI:
We will have limited onsite internet via a cellular hotspot connected to a wide area access point. Coverage should be significantly improved over years past. We can thank our previous super team Carl and Desiree for that as they left behind some AREDN gear for me to play with and I have repurposed and pressed into service.?
SSID to connect once you are onsite:? GVARC
The Password for the WiFi: w6ggfw6ggf
- Once you are connected open N2FJP Field Day software
- Go to Network.
- You should see N6DZK-MBA as a one of the stations listed.?
- In the "Server Name or IP" change whatever is there to N6DZK-MBA as I will be hosting the Field Day master files.?
I know that this is not everything, but is all I have for now, and should be enough to get us rolling.?
Cheers,
Ray
