Roger,
Start by updating your callsign into the MY or MyCall field in both radios. You wisely set up what is sometimes called a ¡°space¡± terminal because you pressed the space bar into the ¡°initial¡± field when creating the terminal that has no initial letter behind it. (You may not ever use the Z terminal with AccessPoint box checked, but it also does not hurt anything to have one.) Then I would read up on DR Mode. That is way easier when getting started with D-STAR than setting up traditional memories. DR Mode makes use of the fact that ICOM (Kenwood for their D74 HT) have loaded tables of D-STAR repeaters before they shipped the radios. So the radio knows by US state, where each repeater is, callsign frequency, offset, etc. Your job is: 1. Put radio into DR Mode (if you see FROM and TO on the screen, it already is, otherwise briefly press the DR button) 2. Set FROM to the repeater you want to use (e.g. MDARC¡¯s W6CX DV repeater) 3. Setting TO can be trickier and partly depends on the radio. For many radios, you want to set TO to Use Reflector. If you have trouble with that on your radio(s), shoot me a direct email. Another trick that is very useful ¨C when you think you are ready to call out to the repeater, you can check if things are set up correctly by pressing the Menu button and selecting CALL SIGN. This will display the 4 key callsign fields and if you are going to have problems, you probably have one of those set incorrectly. In the following example, I¡¯m assuming you are in DR Mode and have selected FROM and TO, and you want to call in on the W6CX DV repeater, in which case the CALL SIGN screen should have: UR: CQCQCQ R1: W6CX C R2: W6CX G MY: N3RC The most common reason for not being heard by people on a linked reflector (W6CX-DV is normally linked to reflector REF014C) is that R2 will be wrong, often blank. This trick will tell you right off if there will be a problem. I know there are a lot of details there but it soon begins to make sense¡. NOTE: Specific to users of the W6CX DV repeater ¨C for some time, ICOM shipped new radios with old repeater tables that had the wrong frequency/offset for W6CX. So check that the first time. You might even have one radio with the correct info and the other has it wrong. There is a way to update that info without getting into programming software. Email me if questions on that. Was able to hear some folks but never had any Qs. But now I bought an IC-7100 for my RV and a hot spot so need some help setting both up. Looking at the D-Star Gateway System (REGIST) shows me listed as follows: Terminal Call Gateway Notes N3RC Z REGIST Access Point Terminal N3RC REGIST Space/Primary Terminal I am going to read up on the 9700/7100 and D-Star but the two Icom Adv. manuals total about 800 pages plus I have another book dedicated to the 9700. So any help/direction would be appreciated. I am an old computer guy who started programming professionally on a IBM 7094 in 1963 but I am slowing up a bit! 73 Roger N3RC cell 4062233482 -- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. |
