?

This is a second reminder of this event that is scheduled for Saturday May 11.? There are a few updates to the previous Word document I sent earlier on March 9, 2024 due to updates on the Armed Forces Day Cross Band Test website since then.

?

Thanks again go to Tom Hyde (NK5H) from the Hood County ARC for sending me the notice of this event last year which was the first time I worked this event.? I successfully contacted 7 of the 20 Military Stations that supported this event last year.

?

Here is the link to the Armed Forces Day Cross Band Test information regarding the event that is scheduled for Saturday 5/11/24 - ?

?

Attached is the Armed Forces Day Crossband Test Event DOD/MARS Notice that I edited to add some clarifying information to make it a little easier to schedule and participate in this event.? I updated the document I provided last year to show the times and frequencies for this year¡¯s event. ?Compared to 2023, some times and frequencies changed, some stations are not participating this year and some stations were added for 2024.? The update details I provided were somewhat tedious, so if you have previously worked this event successfully and find anything I added to the Notice that needs correcting, please let me know ASAP so I can take care of that and re-distribute the information.

?

This is called a CROSSBAND event because the Military Stations will be transmitting on MARS Military frequencies and will announce what Ham frequency they are monitoring.? The Ham objective is to set up your HF radio to Receive on the MARS frequency and listen for the announcement telling you what Ham frequency that Station is monitoring.? Then transmit on that Ham frequency to make a contact with that station to get on their Log Book.? This event does offer QSL Cards for Hams that make contacts with the Military Stations during this event.

?

If you do not know how to operate ¡°Split¡±, here is a link to a short 4-Minute YouTube video that explains how to configure an HF radio for Split Mode.? In this case he explains specifically how to configure the ICOM IC-7300 for Split operations.? However, most HF radios use virtually the same steps but obviously with different buttons to push.? I advise ignoring the ¡°slightly off-frequency¡± trick he suggests for breaking pileups. ?-

?

Let me know if you have any questions.

?

If you have a Yaesu FT-991A, below my signature are the ¡°Split¡± instructions that Jason (N5TXL) provided last year for that radio.
