Oct TARC meeting
FYI, please see below my email in the TARC email group¡ Operators, we have invited a few youth groups to attend the October monthly meeting. A few of us (N5EAB, WB5CTQ, KI5OFN) will be bringing our equipment and setting up to demonstrate voice and digital (Winlink Vara HF) communications. If you have portable equipment that you would like to bring to set up with us or to just show the equipment to the youth, please feel free to join us. This would also provide demos for other members of digital Vara communications for those interested. I would also like to ask for someone to speak to them briefly about ham radio and the Tyler club, about testing and licensure, and ETECS, if possible. Please RSVP to me if you are able to bring your equipment to help demo and/or help speak to some of the different parts of ham radio. Look forward to seeing you all there. Thanks all, N5EAB Andrew Bogue 903.730.0556 Abogue77@...

Memorial Day Nets
Hello, all! ETECS normally does not have its usual monthly training net in May due to the Memorial Day weekend. This year, however, will be a little different. Tomorrow, May 30 at 7:00 PM, there will be a planning and information net on the ETECS system to discuss the upcoming RAC exercise scheduled for June 18. Please check into this net if you can. You may also have heard about a FEMA Region 4 and Region 6 Communications Outage Exercise on May 31/June 1, 2022. At this time ETECS IS NOT planning to participate in this exercise as an organization. Hello from Lance 4
Hello everyone, just joined or rejoined (I can't recall lol) this groups.io ETECS group with this Ham related email. Hope all are well. Just wanted to remind anyone who is interested to please feel free to join us on the fairly new 80M Sunday evening Regional NVIS net. It is now held at 6pm CST Sundays on 3.805Mhz (We sometimes move between 3.803 and 3.815 depending on QRM but usually it is on or very close to 3.805 and I will try to announce on the TARC repeater system just prior to the net if there is a QSY...so look around and find us!). This net is taking advantage of NVIS propagation (see https://www.electronics-notes.com/articles/antennas-propagation/ionospheric/nvis-near-vertical-incidence-skywave.php ) and favors a more vertical takeoff angle of radiation. Thus a low to the ground antenna is not always a bad thing and may even help in this. The idea, which I think dovetails nicely into this group, is to test and prepare for regional communications using radio only without the use of repeater towers or cell phones. Sorry for the long note but wanted to share this and say hi! 73, Lance W5TWM PS..as a bonus challenge...anyone who has or wants to build a 160M antenna (there are some plans and even commercially available shortened ones that appear to work well) please let me know as I am planning to put up one myself and the cool thing about 160M is it can take advantage of this NVIS propagation even at night (when the critical frequency usually drops below the 80M band and thus allows for a regional comms direct method during the dark hours...something that could be useful in an emergency...or at least fun for late night rag chews or possibly another NVIS net ;) ) Sent with ProtonMail Secure Email.
