Digitrax UT4R Throttle Repairs? 2
My Digitrax UT4R has stopped working properly. This has happened before, then I send it and money to Digitrax and they fix it. Now, they say they're out of that business. Anybody else doing it? Thanks. -- Bill Mosteller Great Decals! www.greatdecals.com

PSXX circuit breakers and PSX AR Auto reverse 9
Hello Has anyone used the PSXX or PSX AR boards for their layout? I am trying to use with the ESU cab control dcc system. When I wire into the board, the power does not pass through to the other side of the board. I cannot get The D7 Green LED light to go on. Only the D12 Green LED light goes on and supplies power right from control unit. Thank you.

Electric Sound Decoders 5
I'm looking for sound decoders with sounds for electric locos. Soundtraxx just has a generic "AC motor" in their Tsunami 2 line. ESU has a GG1 and a New Orleans trolley sound. TCS has a decoder with an electric sound but I can't find any more details of what that is. Are there any other electric sound offerings from anybody else? I have a number of brass interurban and streetcar models that can use decoders. I also have a Milwaukee Road EF3/5 three unit set and am interested in getting a GN Y-1. None of the above-mentioned sound offerings, other than the New Orleans car, seem like good matches, and the New Orleans car sound might be close for just a couple of my streetcar models. -- Rick Jones Why are they called apartments when they're all crammed together?

Sperry Proximity Power Tester 2
Hey, I just got a Sperry VD6508 Non-contact Voltage Tester. It works for seeing if there is power on your DCC tracks! Warning - it will also 'sense positive' if the track power is off but the power to the booster is powered (i.e. the transformer to the power supply is powered but the transformer is turned off). This device is super sensitive! You just have to get it near the track and push the button and it will light up and beep (if there is any power there). I tested it at various places around the layout and it always "found the DCC" - yes, even if the transformer was just plugged in to the AC but not turned on. No, there is no problem with my layout wiring - if I use the RRamp Meter it will not find power when the power transformer is off. As I said - Super Sensitive. Even though I would prefer it not show power when the transformer is switched off I am very happy I made this purchase and it -will- be a tool in my arsenal from now on. (BTW, got it and the companion AC wiring tester from Amazon for just $23.) - Jim in the PNW

Peco crossing with 2 peco turnouts
I'm installing a peco short crossing SL-E396F fed by two unifrog medium turnouts (SL-U396F and 5F), just straight track on the other two legs of the crossing. I'm using a tam valley octopus driving servos on the turnouts and the servos switch the frogs. I know you can use a tam valley dual frog juicer on the crossing, but it seems to me the servos could switch the frogs on the crossing - if I connected the frog on the turnout to the frog on the respective side of the crossing?

Requesting Assistance for Proper Placement of gaps on Wye with Full Loop 6
Greetings fellow Members. I'm a new Member of this Group and require some DCC wiring advice for a wye I'm installing on the mainline. I've attached a very basic diagram/photo titled "Stephen Wrays Layout". I am running: Digitrax DCS200 with PM74 power manager/reverser All Peco Code 83 track with Insulfrog/Unifrog turnouts EXCEPT a Walthers Double Crossover (948-83051 - the newer DCC friendly version) just beyond (outside) the points of the yellow wye marked "to yard". I will be running long passenger trains (Think Jason/Rapido Trains for "The Canadian" = max 10 cars plus A-B-A power) so aware that I'm going to need a long section of track to get this entire train isolated. My thinking is to isolate the main line oval (blue) in one power district and the balance (yellow) in another with gaps as indicated on the diagram. As the PM74 has four power manager sub-districts, I'm also thinking to use the two available otherwise surplus districts to isolate the two main yards. I'd appreciate hearing back from Members with their comments about whether I'm proceeding in the right direction OR I'm facing the prospect of "fireworks" (aka short circuits). Many thanks for everyone's kind assistance. It's very much appreciated. Stephen Wray

Walthers code 83 single crossover
Since this is a fairly new product I want to know if gaps have to be cut on the crossover if we are signaling our railroad.

Parallel Track Buss within a Power Buss 6
Greetings, I have a Power Buss that has five Power Districts. Four of the PDs are protected by Circuit Breakers (a Digitrax PM42) and one is protected by a PSX-AR. Three of these PD's need to travel about 12 feet from the Breaker Panel to the tracks they feed. So that is three sets of twisted wire that will be running parallel to each other. Should they be separated, or can they run in a bundle? Thank you, Michael Boyle

Wiring Peco Electrofrog code 75 3
Hi all! My railroad is all Peco Code 100 with Insulfrog Turnouts and I'm just expanding a siding that's Code 75 with Electrofrog turnouts. I intend to use only ground throws on these turnouts and wonder what is the best way to make them electrically reliable (NCE DCC). Any help or diagrams is appreciated! Dan

Locked Reverse Loop Auto Reversers 24
Dear All, Further to my recent post regarding reverse loops, I now have another question regarding auto reversers. I have two reverse loops controlled by DCC Specialities FrogAR's. I would have written to DCC Specialities but it seems they are not contactable. The FrogAR's seem to work very well except for one situation. The particular situation is with a four loco consist. Single locos and double consists seem to pass through the reverse loop gaps without a glitch but the four loco consist hesitates over most of the gaps. They don't stop but they do obviously hesitate. Not the end of the world but it would be nice to know if something I can do/change that will prevent tis hesitation. Thanks in advance........................George.

Circuit Question regarding Capacitor 5
Hi /g/w4dccqa/files/AC%20to%20DC.pdf This circuit shows a rectifier to convert DCC square wave AC to DC so that it can be measured with a DC volt meter. I don't doubt that the circuit design is wrong, I am new to circuit design and am seeking a better understanding. Should there be a resistor upstream of the capacitor in series to regulate the charging of the capacitor? If a resistor is not needed, then why? Thank you. -- Dave Portland, OR

Diode Across a Coil Question - DEC 2023 Model RR Article by Allan Gartner 6
Hi I have a limited knowledge of electric circuit design. In the December Model RR magazine, Mr. Gartner discusses various circuits and electrical components. In one circuit, he discusses the requirement of a diode across a coil to safeguard a component (PSXX) within the circuit (see link). I don't doubt that the diode is needed but I would like to know how the PSXX would be damaged if the diode was not there. What would cause the damage? I'm looking for more explanation so I can better understand how the circuit works. /g/w4dccqa/files/Diode%20across%20coil.pdf Thank you. -- Dave Portland, OR

Do sub busses need snubbers as well? 7
I'm planning on using a single wire sub bus for signalling and block detection purposes consisting of 12 AWG stranded wire. The blocks will be from 18' to 30' and fed by either 10 awg or 12 awg main busses. Due to the length of my main busses being between 30' and 40', I will be using snubbers on the main busses. Does this single wire sub bus need to be addressed? I'm using a 10A system for O scale. Mike

lighted toggles to control twin coil switch machines on a DCC layout. 4
Remember GE's ASTRAC? That's how long I've been in (generic) multiple train control. 1972! I have a DCC layout that was started before Tortoises were available, and before turnout friendly items existed. I have 20 twin coil switch machines controlled by GH pushbuttons (extinct!) and they are slowly dying. The turnouts are controlled by a Snapper, and the auxiliary switch machine contacts are powered by a 6VDC transformer, and incandescent bulbs go inside the pushbuttons to indicate turnout position. With what can I replace all the lighted pushbuttons? They have two sets of contacts, one for the turnout and one for the light (position indicator--each button has either a red or green lens). Of course I will replace the bulbs with LEDs. Can you help? Thanks, Greg Harter PS If this is too far off topic, can you advise where I should seek assistance?
