Dear Friends and Fellow Sysops

For the past year I have been acutely aware of the fact that many things in life eventually become diminished - Time, Resources (financial, physical, mental, hardware), and Desire - all of which are required to properly administer and maintain an RMS Server.? For a sysop to keep up to date with technology, hardware and software changes, equipment repairs, and costs of maintaining a 24/7/365 computer/radio system, it exacts a toll. Toss in poor and illegal operating and the bloom falls off the rose.

On the bright side, there have been some exceptional rewards of lasting friendships, messages of appreciation, and self satisfaction of having served the radio amateur community that has been a huge part of my life for four decades.? One of the most rewarding has been in supporting the development of the HF Analyzer program, conceived by DoC (Dave) Willard - W1EO for the benefit of global network sysops.

Being an RMS sysop has been a time of learning, growth, expansion of skills, and challenging times with rewards equal to what has been required - sometimes demanded - of the role.? My sincere thanks to all of those fellow sysops that encouraged and guided us through the early years, and to the many sailors on the Atlantic, Pacific, Caribbean, Great Lakes, and interconnecting waterways, as well as the back country campers, RVers, and home stations that have found the Server useful.? It has been an honest to goodness thrill to see your contacts, connections and messages make their way back and forth through the server at VA3LKI.? Making this decision has been a real struggle, knowing what the service means to you folks during the gray and dark hours.

"To everything, there is a season."? We must move on, and so the RMS Server will be taken out of service at the end of this month - 2359 UTC March 31, 2016.
