Many times old signs are left up because a new owner can use them (they're grandfathered with the land). Trying to get the City of Tucson (or most other municipalities) to allow new signs is a major headache for business owners (I think SWS Electronic's new sign on Speedway has been in place for over a month and is still waiting the go-ahead from the City to actually use it to advertise its location!) |

'70s. I had a birthday party that included a trip to Cineworld 4 with my friends to see "Godzilla Vs Megalon". I still have some of the promotional pinback buttons they were handing out. (I also have the promotional pinback from th re-release of "A Hard Day's Night" that I saw at the Catalina) A friend of mine had a b-day party where we went to see the '70s version of "Food of The Gods" at Cineworld 4. At times, one of the theatres at Cineworld 4 was dedicated to adult films. They showed "The Sex Boat" (one of those goofy parodies of "The Love Boat") and the X-rated musical version of "Alice in Wonderland." At least it was a place to go and see something like that if you were in your early 20s, a woman, and didn't want to go into a place like the Empress! |

"Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man," with Mickey Rourke,?was filmed in Tucson.? I remember scenes by the 6th ave. Alamo Apts and the Ugly But Honest car dealers as well as at the Pima Air Museum.? And one that surprised me when I found out it was filmed at Old Tucson was Andy Warhol's western "Lonesome Cowboys," with Joe D'Allesandro.? I know I knew others, but can't come up with any now.? And wasn't the Frat House in the Nerds on University, a few blocks west of the campus? ? Jack

Re: Movies Filmed in Tucson THE LIST ( oh boy, A CONTEST)...
The TV show "Petrocelli" is already on the list, but here's a bit of trivia. Petrocelli's office was in the building on Congress & Scott where the Indian Trading Post? used to be. His name was painted in gold letters on one of the 2nd story windows on the Scott st. side. It remained for years after the show was cancelled. Barry Newman played Petrocelli. Petrocelli and his wife lived in a trailer.
"Little House On The Prairie" had a story arc where Laura goes to college. They shot scenes around Old Main at the U of A. The Nickelodeon show "Hey Dude" was shot at the Tanque Verde Guest Ranch. mistercopacetic wrote: Hi All,

Re: Movies Filmed in Tucson THE LIST ( oh boy, A CONTEST)...
Hi All,
This is one of my favorite subjects. A few years ago we put together a list from various sources, but I forgot to post it. Here it is, in the Files section: All members should be able to access and edit this list. If the film or TV show that you know of isn't on the list, please add it to the list, by date. Please add your first name so we know who contributed. Please add as much info as you can on locations, etc., so our list will be more meaningful than the other lists available on the web. Whoever adds the most info will win a DVD copy of "Moonfire", a trucker flick shot in and around Tucson in 1972. It is almost impossible to find this movie. Great but brief shots of the Triple T Truck Stop, Congress Street, and best of all, the old Rancho El Diablo Guest Ranch. This film is in the "public domain" so I can make extra copies in case of a tie. Thanks everyone! Carlos P.S. If you don't know when your movie was made, you can look it up here: --- In vanishingtucson@..., "diamondbacks07fan" <diamondbacks07fan@...> wrote:

Dont forget my favorite - Robert Blake's "Electra Glide in Blue." [Short Tucson motorcycle cop
with issues gets promoted to murder detective.] The aforementioned "White Line Fever" gets a lot of points for Tucson scenery. I just remembered that the denouement of "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" is a shootout in the Boneyard at Davis Monthan, but the funniest Tucson reference is in "The Thirteenth Floor" in which the main character who thinks he is going to a time travelling service [guess which floor it's on] discovers that his whole world is really some kind of computer matrix after receiving a tip to try driving to Tucson. ***Spoiler Alert!**** On the way there just a few miles out of town the entire landscape starts turning into wireframe animation and the road siops because Tucson is only a concept in his programmed world. |
Re: Movies Filmed in Tucson (or nearby)
Also "Thunder Alley," with Leif Garrett, which filmed at the same time as "Revenge of the Nerds" at what was once Stumble Inn, Reid Park, and the outside of the Rialto downtown, among other places. It was filmed at the same time as "Revenge"; I was an extra in it and it went straight to video - wish I'd been in "Revenge" instead, which I consider a classic!
Another is "Tin Cup," with Kevin Costner & Renee Russo. They shot a scene at the Hotel Congress when I was working there and I got to have a short conversation with Costner on the day they filmed. They painted a sign on the corner of the building for the movie which is still there. Since some people have mentioned Old Tucson movies as well, I believe "The Quick and the Dead" was filmed there in the '80s, as well as "Stones for Ibarra," with Glenn Close and Keith Carradine, for the Hallmark Hall of Fame series, and "Tombstone." I get why we wouldn't include the Old Tucson movies though, cos there's probably tons of them! |

"Lillies of the Field" was a movie I caught on tv several months ago.
"Major League" shot scenes at Hi Corbett. "Stir Crazy" was shot in Tucson. There is a scene at Congress & Stone with the old Downtowner restaurant in the shot and they also filmed at a strip bar that used to be on 29th & Craycroft. "Revenge of The Nerds" also used the Tucson High campus as well as the U of A. I remember the burned out frat house they constructed next to the frat house they used in the film which I think is on Speedway. This is the jock's frat house, not the nerd's house. One of my favorite Old Tucson movies is "Rio Bravo". Two others I remember seeing as first releases: "Posse" and "Hawmps". Perhaps obvious, yet still legit. ;) And of course "Arizona", the film Old Tucson was constructed for. --- In vanishingtucson@..., "diamondbacks07fan" <diamondbacks07fan@...> wrote:

Movies Filmed in Tucson (or nearby)
I haven't seen this topic yet...
Can't buy me love - filmed at Tucson High, U of A, Tucson Mall, Old Farm, The old Tuxedo Scoops of Tucson and East Speedway between Tucson and Country Club... It's my fav of all time... filmed about 1986-87 Romy & Michele's High School Reunion, while set in Tucson was not filmed here. Who has more... that aren't as obvious like ones filmed at Old Tucson??? |
