Hello Jeri,
Thanks for the link to the Star.? Personally, if I wanted to know the origin of a Tucson street name, I'd rather just ask any old person at random, and see if they know.?
Okay, I guess I'm a little miffed at the Star lately.? Does anyone know that they're hoarding literally hundreds of thousands of old Citizen photographs, uncatalogued, unused, and deteriorating?? They don't even use the hoard for their own occasional historic interest stories, like Street Smarts.? And they don't allow any public access.? Most other major and minor photo collections have long ago been donated to the Arizona Historical Society, or UA Special Collections.
Additionally, the Star does occasionally run a "wasn't Tucson quaint?" story, but overall, their editorial slant is consistently anti preservation, and pro-bulldozing. ?? ?
I'll keep asking folks about Broadway and La Placita.?
Thanks,
Carlos

Street questions are excellent fodder for "Street Smarts," the fascinating and popular weekly column that appears Tuesdays in the Arizona Daily Star.? They have delved into loads of Tucson history in connection with street names.? Here is a link to yesterday's column about Shannon Road and Shannon Park Apartments' names; back columns are available, as well:
