Historic Home recap and thanks

Hello All,

Belated thanks to all who participated in this year's Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation Home Tour. There were over 1000 attendees! Always a pleasure to see VanishingTucson members come out to support a good cause and have fun, either as attendees or volunteer docents. I'm looking forward to the next event. Stay tuned.

Thanks,

Carlos

I would love doing something like that! I can't this time but if you
continue to be involved with Barrio Historico please let me know if I can
be of assistance in the future. I grew up in Tucson and have a few memories
from before the TCC was planted over the top of the original Barrio, and my
kids went to Carrillo school. I love that part of Tucson.

Have fun Saturday!

Hello All,

Here are a few answers to Frequently Asked Questions about the Historic
Home Tour. There are more details at the Tucson Historic Preservation
Foundation website, and even more details are revealed when you purchase
your tickets here...

When is it? The tour is this Saturday, April 20th, from 10:00-2:00.

Where is Barrio Viejo? It is the neighborhood south of the Police Station.
The tour begins around Meyer and Simpson. The tour is self-guided, so you
can take as long as you like. You do not need to arrive at 10am sharp. To
fully appreciate the beauty of these historic residences, give yourself at
least 1 ? hour.

Self-guided? Yes, you walk from home to home at your own pace, but each
home will have docents to show the home and answer questions.

Speaking of docents, I need one or two more volunteers at the house I'm
showing. Please contact me off-board if you would like to help out,
starting at 9:30am. If you volunteer, you will still have an opportunity to
take the tour.

Thanks again,

Carlos

Here's the original message again:

The National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 was designed to encourage
America to preserve its dwindling historic resources. The Act created the
National Register of Historic Places. One of the requirements for Historic
designation of a residence was that it could not be hidden from the public.
Obviously, the Act couldn't force homeowners to allow the public onto
private property, or inside the home itself.

Realizing that many people have never seen the inside of a truly exemplary
historic home, the Tucson Historic Preservation Foundation annually
organizes a tour of some of Tucson's most spectacular historic homes,
allowing you to experience historic architecture from the inside. In many
cases the homes contain furniture and interior design dating from the
period of construction.

This year, six homeowners in Barrio Viejo have graciously agreed to open
their doors to THPF supporters for four hours on Saturday, April 20th. If
you have ever wondered how you could support the work of the THPF, this is
your chance. Purchasing a ticket for you or for a friend is a fun way to
support the Foundation. Information and tickets here¡

Thanks for supporting this worthy organization,

Carlos

P.S. I'll be there helping out, and am looking forward to seeing a lot of
you again this year.
