Hi All,
Another Tucson landmark has closed. Sorry I found out too late to
arrange a last dinner there. I've been busy moving to my new place in
Mid-Town.
Excellent article reprinted below.
Plenty of photos at the homepage in folder in the "Photos" section.
Please share your memories.
Kind of a shame. It was very "old-fashioned" in looks and cuisine,
but that was also rather nice (it's the first place I had pickled
herring and the concept of several other appetizers that were "on the
house"). I had my college graduation dinner in 1979.
I suspect it was well-known to my parents and other relatives in the
Phoenix area for a long time because before I-10 was built (or even
after it was), Miracle Mile was the business loop for the interstate,
and Ye Olde Lantern was THE place to eat in Tucson Well, that and
getting donuts from Le Cave's Bakery...), and when relatives were in
town, it was often the restaurant we went to for dinner.
We hadn't been there in at least two years, so folks like us didn't do
our parts to keep the place busy! I'll have to make sure that I
continue to patron Le Cave's and Austin's on a regular basis.
