posted some ads for various theaters including one for the Cineworld in the movie theaters album here: Besides the Empress there was also the Sensuous Cinema at 3656 E. Speedway, the Showcase also showed adult films. Nik's Flicks & Chicks was at 4567 S. 6th Ave. I recently found out that one of my cousins managed that place for a while. The Cine Plaza at 318 E. Congress used to also show adult movies. I think the Loft did too and that's the reason they changed their name to the New Loft. There was a place on Congress west of the Cine Plaza and east of Stone that used to show blue movies. It was tiny but had a regular screen, theaters seats and a ticket booth. There also used to be the Follies Burlesque that had movies between the stripper shows. It was and old fashioned place, just like a regular theater. The strippers would get up on stage in front of the screen to do their shows. They used an old portable hi fi, the girls would do 3 songs and would have to go over and change records or move the needle to another song. This place was on Speedway & Main. Ugly cinderblock building painted yellow with red lettering all over it.southeast corner. The MacArthur Hotel was notorious as a gay hangout. There was a gay bar there and guys would rent rooms in the hotel. There was a peepshow across the street from the MacArthur with big plate glass painted opaque red. You would see the guys hanging out in the parking lot. In the mid '70s my brother rented an old storefront in the MacArthur for use as a studio. He would get propositioned all the time. I remember being there in his studio and exploring in a back storage area where they had a bunch of old soda machines. I still have some of the cork backed bottle caps I collected from them. The MacArthur was pretty rundown in those days, really gritty which I thought was cool even at the age of 9. --- In vanishingtucson@..., "bagbaazai" <bagbaazai@...> wrote:
