Attribute transformation question 2
Hello I am a new UCINET user who is exploring how to transform attributes. When I change attributes, the first row is skipped and pushed down. As a result, there is a vertical shift of data. How to fix it? Thank you

Flow Betweenness 2
Hello Everyone, I would like to ask about the Flow Betweenness calculation in Ucinet, it gives in its product two different versions of solutions, one is old and the other one is new starting from version 5.2.0.0. Could anyone explain what is the conceptual difference between them? Is there any chance that one of them is the Random Walk Betweenness? Thank you! Kind Regards, Robert

Matching 3
Dear group, i need to match 2 datasets. They are 2 affiliations network, i tried to use the Ucinet tools Data - Match Dataset - 1 and 2 mode dataset but i saw that it doesn't match both rows and columns. Someone can help me? I uploaded as attachment the 2 excel file of the affiliation network And after that, when they will be match, i need to transform them in an Adjacency Matrix Thanks Roberto

tenure track asst prof position
The Management Dept. at the University of Kentucky has a tenure-track job opening at the Asst. Prof. level. This is a very networky department that houses the LINKS Center for Social Network Analysis and includes me, Dan Brass, Wally Ferrier, Dan Halgin, Zhi Huang, Rose Kim, Joe Labianca, Huiwen Lian, Ajay Mehra and Scott Soltis. Strange as it may seem, we would love to hire yet another network researcher. Teaching load, salary, research funding and quality of local restaurants are all very competitive. Bug in Ego composition routine?
Hi, I need to analyze the ego network composition for a 7 categories attribute, for a network at approx 2900 nodes. The routine (Network > Ego Networks > Egonet Composition > Categorical Alter Attributes) keeps crashing. An output file is created nonetheless, but the results it contains do not correspond with the Netdraw visualizations of ego networks. Anyone else experiencing this problem? It looks like it's a bug, but perhaps there is something wrong with my data. I'm using version 6.681 (latest); The same thing happens on my windows machine and on my Linux machine under Wine; The routine would not work under an older version either (v6.661). Thanks for any help! JP

Source of Wolfe primates?
Hi! Im looking for a source ref for the Wolfe primate data (WOLF) that comes with Ucinet. It is used as an example in Borgatti & Everett's core-periphery article (2000) but only with the Ucinet software as a reference (Borgatti et al., 1999 => [Ucinet5 ref]), and the corresponding example doc is not very informative: https://sites.google.com/site/ucinetsoftware/datasets/wolfeprimates I have gone through Linda Wolfe's work but haven't find it - though I don't have access to all of it so its possible I have missed it. Or is this co-occurrence-at-river-in-Florida data only made available through Ucinet? Lots of thanks in advance! /Carl Nordlund

Clique analysis - Errors of generating overlap matrices 2
Hi Steve, I am working on Cliques function under Network\Subgroups\Cliques for three datasets: - set 1: 456 nodes, - set 2: 322 nodes extracted from set 1 - set 3: 247 nodes extracted from set 1 For all datasets, I always choose "Yes" at "Analysing overlap" box. While I could receive all matrices and files of this "Cliques" function for set 1 and 2, only "CliqueSet" and "CliqueSet Participation matrices could be generated for set 3. The following files/ matrices are missing for this set 3: Clique-by-clique overlap Actor-by-actor clique comembership Clique-by-partition CliquePartition (in which first column is nodes and first row is cliques) When I scrolled down the log file (in .txt format) for "Cliques" results of Set 3, I saw strange characters in "Actor-by-actor Clique comembership" from row 78 and this matrix ends at row 93 while there are total 247 nodes in this dataset. Please find attached with the error log file for your ease of understanding I have restarted many times and even installed the latest version UCINET 6.679 but the errors are still there. Could you please help to look into this and advise me? Many thanks, Ngoc

Chinese label turned into unreadable symbols when editing metafile image in MS PowerPoint 2
Hi All, I have a question regarding the Chinese label not being able to correctly display in PowerPoint when I edited the network image/picture in metafile format I saved from NetDraw. I have been using UCINET and NetDraw for many years dealing with dataset in English and found no problems editing the picture in metafile format. However, recently I've been working on datasets with actor labels in Traditional Chinese, and when I used the 'edit picture' function in PowerPoint, all the labels in Chinese characters turned into unreadable garbled codes (e.g., ??y?C (¡èG?~??)), and I had to manually type them in. Does anyone know how to address this issue? Thanks, Yi-Hwa

analyzing multiple networks simultaneously
Hello, I am starting to learn to use ucinet and to do social network analysis. I usually collect social cognition data from children (e.g., like/dislike, aggression, etc.). I give rosters to children of all the classmates in their class and they circle classmates that match the description. I collect data from several classrooms and children only provide ratings of children in their classroom; therefore it seems like I need to do my analysis across several networks. My plan is to see if I can predict the pattern of ratings based on demographic variables (gender) and some personal ratings the children made. My question is this: are there any tutorials or resources that you could point me to - to help me do this kind of analysis? Particularly I am looking for resources that explain how I handle the classrooms in the analysis. Thanks, Matthew Stapleton University of North Georgia

Comparing density, reciprocity, and fragmentation across 2 networks 3
Hello fellow UCINET users, I am looking for advice on how to compare two networks to see whether they differ significantly in density, reciprocity, and fragmentation--essentially a t-test but for network data. I had seen Steve recommend the "compare densities" command in an earlier post and wondered if there were similar commands for comparing network reciprocity and fragmentation. Additionally, a colleague had recommended using the command: TOOLS > STATISTICS > VECTOR > T TEST (http://www.analytictech.com/ucinet/help/7n80ax.htm); however, this command no longer seems to be available in my version 6.658. Also, would these same commands work with 3 networks? Or would I need a different approach, more like an ANOVA? Thank you in advance for your recommendations! Best, Elizabeth

Actor that do not anwer the survey
There is no single answer to that. In my own work, I create two versions of the data, one with everybody, and one with only respondents. I use them both, but for different things. For example, suppose I have measured ¡°who do you seek advice from?¡±. If I want to know how often people are sought after for advice, I use the big version of the data, because even if Dr. Big did not answer the survey, people did respond about him, so I want to know ¨C among those that responded ¨C how many people sought advice from Dr. Big and everyone else on the roster. For symmetric relations such as ¡°socialize with after work¡±, you could assume that if Dr. Big had answered the survey, he would have named exactly the people who named him. The missing values imputation procedure in UCINET would do that for you. It implements the methods of ?nidar?i? et al. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0378873315301684 steve Sent: Tuesday, May 21, 2019 3:42 PM To: ucinet@... Subject: [UCINET] Actor that do not anwer the survey Hi there, I applied a survey at an ICU with 201 actors (doctors, nurse techs, allied heath). In three months I got 133 answers out these 201. To start the analyse, I must take away the name that did not answer the survey ou they should stay? I am follow the direction from this book - (Borgatti et al, 2013) - Analyzing social networks. But I got this doubt, if I should left or not those names that did not answered the survey. Thank you in advance! Vanessa

SNA data
Hi...I have some network data that has been collected looking at interorganizational relationships. We asked a group of individuals involved in the implementation of a health program to list up to 5 individuals who they contacted for information/funding/ideas, etc. about the program. (n=26 responded to the survey out of a possible 60). There is certainly overlap in some of the individuals named....i.e. two different individuals indicated they reached out to person B. However, person B did not receive the survey. My questions: Is this ego centric data? (I have started to think this based on some reading I am doing. I have previously collected different data). How do I enter the data in Ucinet? Do I complete a matrix for just the 23 individuals who completed the survey? This will miss most of the data that was provided because most respondents indicated people that did not receive the survey Any feedback would be appreciated! Sent from Mail for Windows 10

Chi-Square Test for more than two groups with numerical variance less than 5 2
Hello everyone, I would like to know if there is a Ucinet alternative to Chi-Square to compare data from three groups of countries. Some of the numerical values in the data are less than 5. Data points range from 700 to 1800. I would also like some advice on how many data permutations the computation process would support with such number of data points. The recommended one thousand might be hard on the equipment in this case. Regards, Xanat V.
