Subject: The FCC Has Ruled on Amateur License Fees

?

The FCC has adopted a decision in the matter of Amateur Radio licensing

fees — in a remarkably short time in comparison to other FCC NPRM

proceedings.

?

???? The FCC, based on input from the ARRL and its Members, agreed to

lower the "Personal License Application Fee" that applies to Amateur

Radio licensees from $50 to $35. Unfortunately, it did not accept the

ARRL and its Members' argument that due to the services provided by

Amateur Radio that the fee should be $0.00.

Order.

Hi John,

No problem. I try to put things on my calendar so it reminds me as I can be forgetful so that was the reason I was asking. From what you say you don’t know when it will be so I’ll be aware of that until life becomes more “normal” if it ever does. hi hi…

Have a blessed day and a season of remembering Him whom this Christmas season is all about and why He came to earth.

Thank you Tommy, I continue to research.

Re: Computer Controlled Remote Located Base Station

Thanks, I'll look into noMachine, that's one I have not run across that i remember.

Ray, KE5VJH

Re: Computer Controlled Remote Located Base Station

Ray,
?? Cliff has a great point about NoMachine, it does do audio forwarding, and you can set it up to work with digital modes like FT8. I've used NoMachine before in a similar setup, but I have not used the audio forwarding features.

?? An article showing this might be of some use to you:
(I suspect that's what you were thinking of, Cliff, although I think this is an updated version. I remember the old one. In fact, I think you sent it to me...)

?? If you want frequency agility, you need a radio with computer aided tuning, or CAT control, to change channels or frequencies. I have a Kenwood TS-2000, which is almost completely controllable with a PC. But. it's overkill for nothing but local repeaters. If not using a CAT enabled radio, you need a radio for each frequency and some software to direct the audio. Again, impractical.
?? Personally, I would look for something like a TS-2000 with DTMF remote control. It works reasonably well, and it's stand alone. You just have to use it as a cross band repeater to an HT, or you wire it to a PC like that setup I linked to above. I think there are other radios that do the same thing.

?? I really don't like using a computer to control a radio, but that's just me.

Ray,

For digital modes it is not difficult. I have a Raspberry Pi running my digital station and can connect to it from my Mac Laptop via VNC or noMachine via my home wireless network just fine. Both methods are free to use and setup.

To do analog voice is a totally different matter. IIRC I saw an article in QST not long ago where the author was able to do voice over a network using noMachine to a RPi4. I don’t think it was too hard, but don’t remember that much about it.
